I would have to say the same for most Bloc Party Cd's. I usually listen the first time and I'm a little if'y but I'll find myself going back to the cd again and again till I like it. I'm thinking Bloc Party may have some sort of subliminal messaging going on.

i just listened to silent alarm again
and i change my standpoint they're never going to hit that again

Ya, I would definetly have to say that was their best album. It is my favorite, they seem to be going into a tech/pop genre.. which I mean you have to respect. Some fans hate it when bands stay the same, others hate it when bands keep coming out with the same sounding material. I'm sure you have or have heard of there remake of silent alarm that is all techo'y so you know in the back of their heads they've always wanted to create or enjoyed this type of music.

That is true. You cannot please everyone. If Bloc Party rehashed the debut, then fans would complain. They take a new direction and still people complain. I still have yet to hear the new album but i still adore the debut. I think that among the many albums released at that time (Killers, Kaiser Chiefs,Kasabian,Hard Fi etc) they stand head and shoulders above all of those.

Admittedly that is not a great list but as commercial guitar orientated music goes 'Silent Alarm' is damn good.

i dont think they would have had as much problem in going with a different genre if their songs stood up to the ones on the first album.
i quite like both a weekend in the city and intimacy
but they are both probably (in my head anyway) 3 star records wheras silent alarm was 4
*sorry to put it in numbers
i thought it the best way to put my thought down and the numbers do not reflect a "rating"

^^ Dude, i could not agree with you more. I wouldn't say their newer stuff isn't appealing cause the genre is changing it's just there are more mediocre than great songs on the newer albums.
