So first of all, Built to Spill is coming to town in a few weeks and I just bought tickets :D

Second of all, what do you guys think of this?

Pitchfork: Album Reviews: The Electronic Anthology Project: The Electronic Anthology Project

The fuck is this?! Must download asap, thanks for the heads up.

debaserr 08-26-2010 08:14 PM

any word on the anthology project?

Perfect From Now On 08-28-2010 06:39 PM

hmmm this anthology dealy is quite interesting. not sure what to think of it at this point. its certainly better than 8-bit versions of MM songs i've heard before

sidewinder 08-30-2010 01:59 PM

Still haven't gotten it. I have a feeling I won't really like it, but that's ok.

Rickenbacker 08-30-2010 10:42 PM

The version of Goin' Against Your Mind is legitimately great. The rest, eh. But still interesting.

downwardspiral 08-31-2010 02:12 AM

I should definitely listen to more BTS. I like what I've heard and I saw them when they toured with Dinosaur Jr. a couple of months ago and they were mindblowing. WIll definitely have to get round to getting some more of their stuff.

Anyone a fan of Treepeople?

sidewinder 08-31-2010 10:33 AM

Yes I like Treepeople.

Well that was decidely forgettable. The first and last tracks were decent (Going Against Your Mind and Things Fall Apart), the rest...cheesy and unnecessary. Well they're all unnecessary, the first and last just not being as cheesy.

I think it was made clearly as a bit of a joke.

sidewinder 09-01-2010 10:57 AM

Oh I know, it's fairly obvious. Just saying, it's just kind of pointless. It could have either been a) more serious and potentially awesome, or b) less serious and more silly and potentially awesome. As it is, it just seems to lack effort in either direction. It just makes me wonder why he even bothered.

crash_override 09-02-2010 09:33 AM

Ok Rick, so I listened to the album 'Perfect From Now On' that you had originally recommended to me. I have to say it's a pretty good album, makes better background music than anything. I had trouble keeping my focus on the album itself, and I found myself getting up and doing things around the house while it was playing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Overall, I liked it for what it was and will definitely listen to it again in the future. Thanks for the recommendation.

Jester 09-03-2010 08:14 PM

Perfect From Now On is background music? I strongly disagree.

Rickenbacker 09-03-2010 11:17 PM

Well the show tonight was incredible. As an encore they did Oh Yeah and Goin' Against Your Mind and that was really the highlight of the night for me. Everybody went crazy when the "AND IF GOOOOOOD" part came in.... It was amazing.

Here's a couple shots I took of Doug.

Lol. Oh Doug. :D He might as well be wearing sweat pants and have fried chicken stains on his shirt.

downwardspiral 09-04-2010 04:23 AM

Doug <3 I really want to see BTS again :(

[MERIT] 08-28-2012 12:47 AM

<3 They've still got it.

The Final Track 09-02-2012 03:11 PM

Any word on when a new album might drop?

swim 09-04-2012 10:54 PM

It's coming out next year. I'm seeing these dudes Saturday and stoked as can be they're the most constant band in my library.

The Final Track 09-06-2012 12:43 PM

Awesome! Have a great time.

Perfect From Now On is one of my favourite albums, the songs are just orgasmic, I Would Hurt A Fly especially so. My only complaint about them is that the singer's voice can get a bit annoying sometimes.

Twin Falls is my favourite song by them.

You're right.. I mean I like some of their stuff, but I can't listen to too many songs in a row.. kinda like with Smashing Pumpkins, I'll go nuts after 3 tracks in a row! :)

But I do think that Car is a classic that I will never grow tired of!

Jester 09-11-2012 09:47 PM

dang i haven't listened to Built to Spill in a cold minute and they're one of my favorite bands

nbakid2000 09-28-2012 12:23 PM

I just got into Built to Spill and I own two albums now - 'Ancient Melodies of the Future' and 'Keep It Like a Secret'. Really good albums, both of them. Working on getting the rest of their stuff.

Another band I found, similar to Built to Spill, is Figurines. I have two of their albums now too.

TimeOfTheSeason 10-07-2012 03:37 PM

Aw shucks boo boo! I love Modest Mouse! They're earlier stuff is heavily punk influenced.. I have spent long periods of time listening to Pixies over and over. They are an extremely important band in rock history in my opinion.

But as far as Built To Spill Goes, You In Reverse is an amazing record.

odysseusofsnow 08-09-2014 10:25 AM

I am sad to hear all this talk of Built to Spill being annoying and hard to listen to. I listen to them 24/7. They are my favorite band of all time. I understand that their songs can sound a bit boring at first. Two years ago the only song I liked by them was Distopian Dream Girl, still love it, and I couldn't see why Carry The Zero was considered such a great song. Now, Carry The Zero is my all time favorite song and I honestly can say I love all their songs.

Built to Spill songs that are not boring at all: Time Trap, Stab, Made-Up Dreams, Strange, Traces, Aisle 13

Distopian Dream Girl and Aisle 13 gave me the Built to Spill bug and it has been over a year now where they are the majority of who I have been listening to. :yeah:

odysseusofsnow 08-09-2014 10:30 AM

Also, I love when people say that Built to Spill's best album is You In Reverse because it is my least favorite out of them all (excluding The Normal Years). And it just validates how all of their records are extremely good and that everybody who likes one of their songs like Car or Liar needs to go and listen to 100% of their music. I am willing to bet that you will find more than a couple songs you will like quite a bit more than Car or Liar.

Zombeels 08-09-2014 01:09 PM

One of my favourite bands. Best albums are Perfect From Now On, Keep It Like A Secret and There's nothing Wrong With Love.

Favourite songs go like this:

I Would Hurt A Fly
Center Of The Universe
Things Fall Apart
Else
Time Trap
Liar
Carry The Zero
Made Up Dreams
Big Dipper
Randy Described Eternity
Untrustable
Reasons
Fling
In The Morning
Distopian Dream Girl
Stop The Show
Car
Going Aganist Your Mind
Sidewalk
Hindsight

odysseusofsnow 08-11-2014 10:40 AM

I think that Time Trap is their most beautiful song of all. Carry The Zero may be my favorite song of every song in the world, but Time Trap is my favorite song that Built to Spill has ever made, if that makes any sense at all haha.

The first half is so sick and it just drops off, and then Doug Martsch comes in: "It's barely yours on loan..."
