I don't hate them.
I never listened to them, checked them out due to the rave reviews here and was struck by how bland they are.
I'm fine, relax with your amateur psychology, guys.

On a beautiful clear night, find somewhere you can be alone for about 12 minutes and listen to this:

Unless that's the track that struck you as bland. There really are only a handful of tunes that aren't 'bland' as you say. Understandable.

Will do. I always give a band several chances.

And yeah, should have gone with "had never listened to them before." English past tenses are my secret weakness.

I'll check out War on Drugs latest per your recommendation Plankton. I think I remember reading that it was generally well received.

Grindy's spoiler gave me a good chuckle. I should've seen it coming, but didn't. And I can see how someone could listen to 'Lost in the Dream' and come away thinking it's bland. I mean, they're not exactly Mr. Bungle and they're also not pushing the envelope. I think it's good stuff though. Different strokes for different folks.

I bought and DL'ed "A Deeper Understanding" and out of the entire thing I only regularly listen to 3 tracks:

Thinking of a Place
Strangest Thing
Pain

The rest are, as *they say, bland.

Oh my goodness. I guess it's impossible to argue with personal tastes but their sound is so particular and the quality so uniform (at least for the last 2 albums) that I really don't understand how you can only like 3 tracks from that album. I think there isn't a track on the last two albums I don't like. Have you tried Lost in the dream?

A bit of it, but it got a little boring. It really depends on the mood I'm in. ADU came through in a time when I was feeling a little emotionally vulnerable.

I wasn't looking for Mr. Bungle.
I'm actually on the lookout for some chill, groovy rock with a non-douchey vocalist. Something to listen to while driving a convertible down a scenic country road on a warm summer's eve.
Something fitting has been surprisingly hard to find.
At first I actually thought that TWOD was exactly what I was looking for but ultimately it didn't work out.
I came to really enjoy Dire Straits during my quest, so it's not like I can't stand a bit of bland.

How can this be boring??
They really mix it up with fast and slow paced songs but even if you were looking just for the melancholy slow burn ones there are plenty of those there also.

But anyway!

^^Thats not too bad. I can see how they built their sound through this style of tension and release with the break in the middle to a crescendo and outro, which is the same with quite a few of their tunes. It's the content that gets you there that has to pop for me, and it does fall a little flat for some reason. Maybe I need a few listens. Maybe I'm just not in the mood.

Either way, I appreciate the rec.
