Why do music discussions become an insult fest?
 

Hi guys,
I have only been a member of this forum for a week but both threads i have started, which were intended to discuss music as this forum dictates, have quickly descended into silly insults and jabs at each other, and really have nothing to do with the original topic. Why do people bother with that? It seems to go against everything these forums were created to achieve.

The name of this forum is music banter. What did you expect?

I expected banter not childish insults. Those are 2 different things. I especially didnt expect it in the indie forums, where i thought i would get some cool discussions and learn more about a genre i love

Its been great actually. Made some great friends.

I just expected more from forums like this. If i wanted mindless insults i can get that on twitter

This site is old. And it's community is small with certain people liking and disliking each other. Some people starting their own cliques as well. Read any part of this forum in recent years. They always go in that direction. That said their are plenty of knowledgeable interesting conversations to be had. Visit the general music session. Check out metal battle in my sig. Lots of great convo in that thread.

Again, you are not really discussing the topic. is there any point being on these forums or is it just a place for people to poke fun, attack and generally not discuss anything of interest? Or do you guys think its worth being on here as you have found some cool new bands and made new friends who like great music? I have to say i have found a couple of bands that i never wold have if i wasn't on here, so maybe its worth all the dumb ****, to get the good stuff too

Because you used all caps when you chose your name for starters. It's a dead give-away that you're new to forums. People take advantage of that.

Do people really care about that? I dont even read the names of the people, i am more interested in what they have to say.
