Is guitar music irrelavant to the majority of todays youth?
I love all music, and i am a multi instrumentalist myself, been signed to sony publishing in the 2000's in an indie band and still get royalites from that, and have been playing guitar for 20 years now, and i also teach primary school kids and high school kids guitar. To me, most kids listen to way more hip hop these days, where as when i grew up it was more 50/50, grunge was big and then brit pop. Rock music was the biggest selling music last year but hip hop is the most listened to(streams) according to google. I personally listen to more hip hop as its seems more fresh and has more interesting characters/stories. Do you guys think that guitar based music has become stale to todays youth and has been replaced by hip hop?

Yes, hip hop replaced all of the music that was good and pure. Evil stuff it's going to lead our youngins to a bad place.

All the kids these days try to pick up girls want their best autotuned rhymes. It has essentially replaced the guitar, and I foresee them either declining in quality or not being produced at all in ten years.

i cant tell if you guys is joking or not. Good discussion though. i would say that everything you guys are saying about hip hop/autotune etc is what people said about rock n when it came in the 50's and throughout the 60's and 70's. Its "evil", its a phase, it wont last. Hip hop is a young genre compared to many others but its here to stay i think. I has evolved from being underground in the 80's and early 90's to being the most influential genre of all. Its has been mixed with rock/metal/pop/dance/soul/jazz and continues to dominate. Is that a bad thing or just the evolution of popular culture?

Autotune is the new panning or cheesy electronic drum presets. Occasionally well done, trendy, and will sound dated as all hell in 5 or more years.
