best new indie rock bands 2015/16?

Hi everyone,
I am curious to find new music, indie rock/pop aliternative and just cant find anything thats fresh and interesting. When i say new, i mean bands that have come out in the last couple of years. I only really listen to hip hop these days as it seems the most relevant genre now and indie/rock/alt seems dead. Can anyone help?

MORRISGUITARMAN 09-15-2016 08:39 AM

Nice one. Loving this band. A bit like the fall but a bit less rough. When did they come out?

MORRISGUITARMAN 09-15-2016 08:47 AM

checking out some of Oughts other songs. I hear a little bit of Pavement too. really goof. Thanks again for this, been trying for ages to find cool new bands as i am losing faith in guitar based bands. This is helping to restore it!

MORRISGUITARMAN 09-15-2016 04:35 PM

ok, when i siad indie/alt is dead i meant i rarely hear any "new" bands in that genre that i like or are doing anything interesting or different to whats already been done by bands i loved form the 90's/00s. I think you are right about the record companys, but hip hop an its sub genres seem so much more contempoary and relevant to me, and its the most popular genre in terms of streaming. In fact rock music still out sells hip hop as most young people dont buy records. Its older people that pay for downloads and buy music. Hip hop is the most listened to genre. You can just see by the numbers you see on youtube and spotify. Its a fact. Thats why i joined this forum so i could find some decent guitar music, as its quite hard to find. most of it is a watered down version of whats already been done. That band you recommended was really good and i bought a track of theirs on Itunes. Do you have any more cool bands to recommend?

Let me let you in on a secret:

Almost nothing popular in the 90's was original

Who cares about what's relevant to most people, most people are not aware of music beyond what is marketed to them and could care less about it artistically

Hey buddy. Do me a favor right now. Look up at the top right of the screen. Yeah you might have to scroll up a little. There now? Alright look under your name and your PM box. See a button there? **** off forever.

Maybe it's the way he posts, but the **** he says is downright ridiculous.

And can we get some actually new indie bands in this thread. I didn't get to listen to a lot of new music this year. Really wanted some recs to check out.

Neapolitan 09-16-2016 09:32 PM

OK this is by no means new and fresh cause it is a throw back to the Psychedelic era of the late 60s, but it's the newest band I know. :shycouch:
And you know after reading through this thread I think this is what it needs now a little bit of peace and love which perhaps can be achieved by listening to Psychedelic hippy music. tune in and chill out

Calling people autistic and posers as some legitimate insult? I say there's a fine line buddy and you cross it constantly. Not to mention the stuff you say is completely bull****.

Tristan vs. elphenor is the beef of 2016. Move aside, Nea and JGuy.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-17-2016 07:50 AM

Did you get your username from the Iliad/Odyssey?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-17-2016 07:56 AM

Yeah I only knew that because I just had to read the book for one of my uni classes. Still, figured that's where you got it.

I've never used the words "autistic" or "poseur" in reference to a boarder here as far as I remember anyhow

Let's hug!

Jguy and Dylstew respectively. I think you used the term autismo at one point.

It is an objective fact that those are false accusations

That is the only part of your post that's addressable because the remainder is entirely your opinion

So regardless of the fact that I forgot what specific insult you made, the insult was still clearly made in a similar fashion. And you repeatedly called Dylstew out for "not being punk" though I venture you to claim how many zines you own, houses you've squatted in, and heroin you've consumed over the course of your life.

There will be fresh corpse soon enough. The vultures are already gathering.

Neapolitan 09-18-2016 10:04 PM

It's only a single. I guess the OP wants new artist releasing debut albums during '15 & '16?

Furoris Causa - "Snow in the Park"

I am a music fan, not just 90's. I love all music from different times. I love 80's pop, 70's rock, 50's rock n roll to name but a few. And i care about whats relevant because i am a musician myself so its just something that interests me. When you make a product its good to see if there is a demand for it. So i asked this question out of interest basically. As a maker of music i do care what people like.

Thats not really a secret but thanks. I did know that information but thanks for the reminder. My response would be, originality does not make something good. And the question was not about originality in the first place.

Yeah, i am suprised that people get so worked up. Its just the internet!! And i was just looking for great new music recommendations for cool people. So, thanks to everyone again for being involved. Oh, and when i said new and fresh, i didnt mean original. Those are different things. Just good indie guitar music thats been made recently. Nothing is really original anyways.....

Thanks, :)

How far back?

I hope you don't mind me going back to '13/'14 with the first band. The Soundcarriers are from Nottingham, UK. They have a Psychedelia and Experimental sound much in the same vein as 60s group The United States of America. It sounds like could be Joe Osborn playing bass on Low Light, Osborn was a studio musician he played with the Wrecking Crew and back groups like The Fifth Dimension. Wild Nothing - Life of Pause has a very 80s sound. There is something about Japanese Alice that reminds me of Outdoor Miner. Xeno & Oaklander is minimal electronic duo, members are Sean McBride (US) and Miss Liz Wendelbo (born in Norway, lives in NY)

band ‎– album title
The Soundcarriers ‎– Entropicalia (2014)
Wild Nothing ‎– Life Of Pause (2016)
Xeno & Oaklander ‎– Topiary (2016)
