Indie with good guitar

Why aren't there any good indie bands with good/interesting guitar playing other than King Tuff and JEFF the Brotherhood?

Tristan_Geoff 02-13-2016 10:12 PM

Ty Segall? Jay Reatard? Dinosaur Jr?

Justthefacts 02-14-2016 02:00 AM

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, really early Bloc Party, The Strokes, Ted Leo, Ty Segall as suggested, Arctic Monkey's first few records, Japandroids, Vampire Weekend? So many

Ooh, yeah Japandroids. They make one guitar sound like twenty.

Also JPNSGRLS.

Fucked Up have that 20+ guitars sound on lock.

Still need to look more into them. What I've heard so far is top notch though.

White Stripes, if you count them as indie. Especially live.

Jack's sloppy, but in a good way.

Sleepy Kitty
Trunkweed
St Vincent

Definitely Dinosaur Jr. I still love Ty Segall and Jay Reatard, but their guitar isn't as much lead as distorted, garage-rock background guitar.

Seriously, Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys? I do agree with some Bloc Party and Ted Leo. Japandroids are a great example as well. Good list.

I personally agree with you about the White Stripes, and anything Jack White for that matter, even though most think he has sold out. You can tell JW has listened to a ton of music and his influences are an impressive list.

Vampire Weekend are maybe a lazy example, but Arctic Monkeys has a great guitarist, utilized especially well on their first few records.

If you are looking for similar bands there is thread for this: http://www.musicbanter.com/indie-alt...on-thread.html Anyway, there are a lot of indie bands with "good/interesting" guitar other than those two bands.

Bass Drum Of Death
Meatbodies
Diarrhea Planet
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Cloud Nothings

Just checked out Rozwell Kid after your suggestion--definitely some good integration of guitar there. idk about Cloud Nothings (they just sound like badly executed pop), but Diarrhea Plant, if you can get past their name of course, nails their guitar playing.
