Zola Jesus. She grew up in Midwestern US, but originally from Russia I think. Her music is heavily inspired by Joy Division and the like, but sort of makes it her own.

I like Type O, personally but I think some would argue that they are more of a parody of the Gothic genre. I don't see them as being in the same ballpark as The Cure, or Sisters of Mercy.

I'm wondering the same thing. I love the classics, I know there is a lot gothic country/folk stuff out there, but has anyone picked up the mantle on the rock side?
