I would say check out James Blake's self titled and Overgrown albums. Slow moving nocturnal depressing goodness. Very atmospheric, really interesting composition.
And then Burial's Untrue is a great album as well. Really surprising use of samples. Just stuff you can just put on and then stare at a wall for an hour while reevaluating your life. Y'know..funtimes... |

Youth Lagoon can make me feel pretty sad sometimes. The song 17 gets me. Also Roxy Rollah mentioned Elvis Depressedly, Hotter Sadness is my favorite by Elvis. I really like the driving drums and simple guitar setup.
What songs do you like Roxy? |

Listen to Chelsea Wolfe's album "Unknown Rooms"
Listen to old stuff by Bright Eyes. Elliott Smith is also a big MUST. There's this Mexican band called Ampersan. Look for their song called "Colores". Super sad. Also "Why Can't You Just Be Happy" by Renee Goust. Leonard Cohen has some pretty sad songs, too. |
