Arguing about MJ in a thread about REM would be definately be considered spamming

As for Murmur, I think it's one of the finest debut albums released. It really captured their pre-Document 'jangly' sound, which I love. Chronic Town is great as well.

I think everything from Document to Monster is fantastic - and the early stuff is decent but doesn't grab me like that high period did.

I love Monster (or as I like to call it, Peter Buck is REALLY Excited About His New Delay Pedal) despite the hate it gets. Automatic For the People is their best, most complete album though.

I lol'd

Document, Automatic, and Monster are my favourites. I think Monster was criticized for it's sharp contrast to Automatic - REM went from a flowy, softer-sounding record to a raw, guitar-bass-drums record, and people didn't like that for some reason.

Wow. Nearly 2 years have gone by since the last post! Anyways, I found this great little interview with Bill Berry, done sometime in 1990, while they were still recording Out of Time. I could listen to him talk all day, he has a great voice.

nice eyebrows.

I like Monster, but I would rank it is about tier 3 of their material. Yeah, it was a sharp contrast to AFTP. But I do not think it was all that memorble and doesnt hold up to repeat listens. Seemed kinda forced to me.
