Dadrock is aging rock stars that still perform. Especially artist from the 60s.

Some bands just don't know how to die with dignity.

That's why I always had respect for "Grace Slick" of Jefferson Airplane, she knew when it was time to quit, and I openly expressed the fact.

I think the term Dadrock is being misused.

When stuff was being referred to as Dadrock the insult wasn't so much the fact they were bands that your Dad listened to, it's that the newer bands (As they were then) were copying what your Dad listened to and would probably appeal to him.

The first time I ever came across the term Dadrock it was being used to describe poor 90s trad rock bands and / or who basically wished they'd been around in the 60s & 70s who usually end up on those Top Gear compilations.

Bands like Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, Oasis, Paul Weller and to some extent The Stone Roses, The Verve, The La's.

^ doesn't sound like dad rock to me.

Whenever newer bands end up replicating a similar sound of bands from a different decade they are usually called [insert decade] revival.

I just learned that Vanilla Fudge has been touring as recently as last year.

All I could think was "why?"

I love them. They're groovy. They're one of my favorite psychedelic rock groups but it's just not the same when you've got a bunch of old geezers trying to tune in, turn on, and drop out in 2014 to an audience who probably won't get it.

Calling something a revival is hardly an insult, that's what the term Dadrock was originally, a derogatory term.

Now it just means any old rock band.

man, if anyone's dad actually listens to the classic rock that's being called "dad rock", I wanna rock with their dad. They've got a cool dad.

Nice to see that someone else likes BATS :)

I'd definitely take bands like Drive Like Jehu and Polvo over any band labelled as dad rock.
