if the answer is more than 2-3 years it's compilation time. just to keep the name out there and the revenue moving. plus it's a great stocking stuffer. that. or they want to change labels and are just filling out their obligations to their old one. the chili peppers did this in the mid 90s and released a 'best of' and a 'b-sides collection' at the same time to switch from emi to warner or something like that. |

I would say it is more of a contractual obligation thing... I really hope it's not otherwise, and I'd highly doubt it anyways... I'm not a Greatest Hits album sorta guy so I won't be buying it.... but I am excited to see what they do next...

I do fear that they are moving toward bland, pat glory-rock though. "hero," "best of you," and "wheels" are all kinda that same big, boring, hollow riffs. They need a return to form like REM had.

It's kind of a shame that Grohl wastes his talent in an outfit like The Foo Fighters when he could be kicking ass in a prog. group somewhere.
Then again, some of the projects he's worked with are quite solid, so I forgive him for starting the FF.

I do like a couple of Foo Fighters songs such as: My Hero, Everlong, In Your Honour, All My Life but generally I think they are dull as ditchwater.

Their greatest hits is a great album. Except for a few songs they put on that were previously unreleased (I hate it when bands do that.)
But I can't listen to one of their studio albums start to finish, but I love their hits. - Everlong, My Hero, Monkey Wrench, Times Like These etc. |

Maybe this is the closing chapter of the first era of the band and next they'll go all prog on us.... hehehehehe... probably not likely...
