Ty Segall
Pretty prolific solo artist from my hometown who has made quite a name for himself in his 10ish years recording music. He's all over the place, from artsy post-punk, fuzzy noise rock, garage, surf, and most recently acoustic folk. He's got a couple side projects, too. Here are some videos:

great guitar player, very underrated songwriter

Agreed. He's a really awesome drummer too. Recently found out he does drums and vocals for Fuzz, a sorta doomy/stoner/psych rock three piece. I'm surprised to see so few responses... seems everyone that frequents the indie/alt section of this forum are more into the stuff that actually gets publicized. They don't know what they're missin.

Ty Segall appears to have a new album on the way:

VHS tape?
I thought all the pretentious retro indie types were into cassettes. Quote:

Listening to the new(er?) album. I have no idea how this guy is lauded so much and Muse isn't. For the record I don't like either but it's the same ****ing band.

From the tracks posted here, he sounds like the most Californian man alive: an indie slacker with a taste for psychedelia, a significantly less talented Ariel Pink, a dollar-store Beck, that kind of thing.
Goodbye Bread is a nice track though. |
I thought this was some kind of Steven Segal appreciation thread. Man, I was way off.

I came here because I thought it was weird to see you post about contemporary music. I too was way off...
