Default A proposition on forum Etiquette

Alright so I see requests in alot of threads asking people to search for a thread on a band that already exists rather than start a new one. We should probably direct people to where the search function is (top of the page in the turquise bar) but heres my real question...

If we search for old posts chances are that when you post a newer question or peice of information its often the case that your posting in a thread thats already 5 pages deep with at least 2 pages of off topic blather. Im not suggesting we should condone 5 nirvana threads on page 1 but there is some merit on starting a thread to
A) be more germane and
B) Not be buried under heaps of stupidity. (im referencing the "bloc party" thread if anyone wants to look it up)

This was just a suggestion, I encourage healthy and civil debate, your thoughts?

So is anyone actually going to read this or should I forever quit using my brain here and just make more smartass remarks?

Yeah, the whole Idea of doing a thread search before starting a thread is to enable you to use your own better judgement when it comes to starting a new thread. The Bloc Party thread was classic example of a good thread idea that went so far off topic that starting another one would have been justified. Chances are that if you have enough common sense to do a thread search before you start a thread then you can probably safely trust your own discretion in deciding whether or not to start a new thread .
