I downloaded the new album... first impression "OH MAN THIS SUCKS DONKEY ****". I'll listen a few more times as always and see if I eventually force myself to like it. I must be a fanatic, I keep buying their albums and talking myself into liking it. This one will be a challenge though... it's unfortunate, they really are/were one of my favorite bands.

i don't think Weezer ever grew from the first album. every song produced afterwards (except for the wretched dreck from Maladroit) sounded like it could have been on any album. They have three types of songs: sweater song, buddy holly, and island in the sun. Every song other than those sounds like one of those three.
the shame is that they have the playing ability, they just lack the writing ability. i think they have been pretty boring since the second album. I wouldn't go see them even with free tickets. |

They need to be good in the 2000's, what are they waiting for?

Lol good point. Well, I don't know how I would feel if I weren't a Weezer fan, but I think Red album was a pretty good effort. It at least sounds like they're trying to be original again. Rivers Cuomo's Home Alone Recordings was pretty good, but that doesn't count because the recordings were from before 2000.

I've recently got addicted to Weezer again, remembered how much I love the blue album and Pinkerton after downloading the new album, which after initial listens I am quite enjoying.

Songs like "Greatest man who lived" is an exception, even though that song is a fractured mess I can appreciate it probably took them a while to construct it.
