After the pixies

to get this thread you have to know who the Pixies are

i don't want to assume everybody knows them so if you don't know them this should help

Pixies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

for those of you that know them i ask you

have you followed their careers after the pixies?

'Black Francis' became 'Frank black' and had a solo career but also formed the 2 bands 'Frank black & the catholics' and 'Grand duchee' with his wife

Kim deal formed the breeders and the amps, now idk the exact timeline when she formed this bands but i know she formed the breeders while she was still in the pixies

Joey formed the martinis with his wife

if you HAVE followed their careers, which one do you like the best?

for me, it would have to be Frank black

he has made alot of great albums that have seem to go unnoticed

like 'teenager of the year' or 'dog in the sand' among others

here's one of my fav track from teenager of the yr

I'm familiar with Frank Black and the Breeders, preferring the former.

The Breeders were formed when the Pixies were touring with Throwing Muses. Kim Deal & Tanya Donelly decided they wanted to work together.

The Amps were a one off project that was formed after Kelley Deal was arrested for heroin possession and had to go to rehab in 1995.

thanx, i did not know that

the amps were good although it was kinda the same thing as the breeders

but still, some of my fav kim deal songs were recorded with the amps, like 'bragging party' or this one

I've gotta be honest, I'm not too impressed by Francis's solo work. Liked a few songs from Teenager of the Year, and others here and there, same with the Breeders. I think there is just something great when all four of them are together, to songwrite the way they do.

Another Pixies album NEEDS to happen and theres no reason why it can't, they've all made up. It needs to happen before one of them die or something, like The Velvet Underground were teasing another album in the early nineties and what a ****ing sad missed opportunity when the guitarist died.

I wouldn't say another Pixies album NEEDS to happen but it would be interesting all the same. I wasn't too impressed by the 'Bam Thwok' song they released in 2004. If they can pull off a Dinosaur Jr and release something that can rival the likes of Surfer Rosa, Doolittle and Bossanova then I would be a very happy camper. But reunion albums are usually always a rehash of past glories and offer little new to the listener (there are some exceptions of course).

@Thinkofthechildren

I think kim deal's talent is wasted on the pixies
don't get me wrong, she added alot to the pixies but her best work have been with her own bands

and i think you should give Frank black another shot some songs he makes are like pixies songs

That's like pixies good U_U

and even though im a huge fan of the pixies im NOT FOR them getting back together
i don't think they can capture the sound dynamics they once had, they're different ppl now
i don't think they should try to force that chemistry back just to please us fans it's not gonna sound good..

I wouldn't say that her talent was wasted on them as such, she just couldn't contribute as much as she wanted due to the power struggle between her and Black Francis. I love what she did with the Breeders but her talent for simple yet effective bass playing is one of the main reasons I love the Pixies so much.

Okay, maybe I was a little unfair. My favourite has got to be Czar from the first album, or Headache from Teenager of the Year.
