Are you kidding me? I'll give you a few reasons, their lyrics are interesting, the vocals are unique (you either love or hate it) and they start certain songs lightly which leads into a dropping bass and a heavier riff. I absolutely love them, I've been playing the album on repeat for weeks! Gave me chills today.

Your great defence of the group you've been harping on about for all this time is two lines and a YouTube video. First off, I shall disregard the YouTube video as I have already listened to the album and will not be putting myself through that again. It does not have the artistic integrity to be as you may say 'a grower', that is why so many simple minded people have picked up on this record. Secondly 'interesting lyrics' okay, let's take a closer look at a random track from the album, let's say 'Dissolve Me' Quote:
Perhaps the singer is saying he feels transparent, as if he isn't noticed. An invisible man in the situation, as the small strand of soap is very lean. This line 'soap sliver you're so thin' I really racked my mind trying to comprehend. It just isn't coherent. Never have I seen a dumber way to get alliteration into lyrics or possibly an overrated band referencing another overrated band. Or perhaps it was just a pretentious line used to set up the next Shakespearean extract. In the next line he's talking about how when he uses soap it froths into his skin whilst the poor bar of soap is diminished in the process. Oh, that poor bar of soap. How inhumane. What injustice! And gold? Gold what, the substance? What does that have to do with anything. Is he indicating he has a form of Midas Touch because soap breaks up upon impact whilst he's using it? 'Fatless finger to lip' a rather skinny finger comes up to his mouth as he indicates it is time to wind this exhilarating verse down with the universal silence sign. (My, I wish he'd have taken his own advice) 1,2,3,4 Hush is simple enough to explain. 'And pulse to pulse'. Err, with every beat of his heart. 'Now shush' which is in effect what you said in the third line, rendering this fourth line pointless. Thank God there are only two verses with 8 lines between them. As for vocals. He just sort of mumbles and trips over himself in a monotonic manner. I know the attempt to play down the importance of vocals may be his way of show how 'minimalistic' and 'cool' his style is, but he's not talented enough to pull it off. It just sounds like a rambling mess. Which, it is. Quote:
No way! The songs progress as they go. What a completely unique and redeeming characteristic that is present in absolutely no other song I have ever heard. The worst thing about this average at best group that is doing nothing that hasn't been done a million times before is that for some odd reason people are starting a hype train for them. Why on earth are they doing that? Each year, critics will get behind one 'indie' band and put them over to the moon, Alt-J are just 2012's version of what The Arctic Monkeys were, or what Everything Everything were. Mumford & Sons, Florence and The Machine, The Horrors. Take your pick. All average at best, all blown way out of proportion by the same pretentious critics who think Alt-J who are something special. They're not. These critics are just too boring and too stuck in their same old patterns to actually search for music worth hyping, so stick to what they know. Boring 'indie' which lands on their desk once a year. I would know because my college lecturer was the same. He wrote a music column for The Guardian. When I'd challenge him on a particular artist, or asked him if he'd heard a good record like Kendrick Lemar's Section 8.0, he'd say no, Mumford & Sons record was better just because he was in a paid role despite losing his passion for music years ago. Alt-J are just getting attention because of tired old men who need to be replaced with those in tune with what's hot in 2012. And it sure as hell is not 'An Awesome Wave' |

Sounds like you're just angry about the hype because you don't like the album.
There's not really any need to argue about it, with taste being so subjective. I don't think a 2-page long essay about how good the album is would change your mind, would it?
