Angry The Hype-Thing...

Yeah, that's the problem with all these mainstream-people...
They hype something, cause it's supposed to be "in" although they dunno why...
That ruins everything, even if u liked a band before. I dunno if I'm the only one who thinks so, but if a band/movie/thing/whatever is hyped in that way, I can't appriciate it anymore...
That's why I secretly hope that nobody will recognize them, everytime I got to know a new band... It's damn egoistic and silly, I know, but I cannot deny these feelings...

Really? Almost every time I find a new band, Ill tell someone else about them, just cause I like to talk about the music with someone else... I dont like keeping a band a secret, music shouldn't be kept a secret, that defies the whole point of it.

But I kinda understand what you mean... Its not as special when everyone else knows about them, not just you..

how else am i going to find out about good music...i have to choose some method, there's just too many bands out there...and what does it matter if my music taste follows a fad, if i genuinely enjoy the music? you tend to dismiss everything that's popular, and assume it can't be good?that's a bit snobbish of you..

I do it the same way. If there's a band I like very much (like Mando Diao, I talk bout them all the time...), I tell my friends and everybody I meet bout them. I wanna share my enthusiasm... If there's something you really like, you always try to make the others see (unfortunately my friends are ignorant, they like their mainstream-chart-thing).
But don't ya know, when u liked a band for quite a long time & u always recommended this one, but nobody recognized u and then SUDDENLY it's everywhere on TV/radio/magazines/whatever... Like "That's the new "in"-band!" and u just think "OKAY, but I already know that! That's what I always said, but nobody listened to me..."
Do ya know what I mean? Things like that annoy me...

Thanks. I get that alot. That comment goes through me like water nowadays.

I was simply suggesting that your exposure to music will forever be tainted and biased if you depend on good reviews, bad reviews. Most of the people who rate these albums are no different from you and me. I wouldn't depend on them, and I'm sure you're fully aware of that. There are PLENTY of sources to find the style of music you like. Musicbanter happens to be one of them. If you actually care to look for new bands (instead of the popular ones that you always hear about) then look around. Check out some of the other threads in the forums.

And, I happen to listen to TONS of popular music, just nothing you listen to.

Hah I know exactly what you mean... That is actually really annoying, I agree with you completely...

Its worse when you let them listen to a band you've just found, they say they dont like it, and then when they become popular a few months later, they'll be all "Hey check this new band I found out, theyre really good".

Hmm, never mind... Nowt you can do about it I spose.

Arrow Mainstream's dead!!!

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant!!!

And they are like "Oh, u have to listen to them, they're "IN" now!", as if they were the ones who found out bout the band...
And this behaviour definitly proves how "mainstream-addicted" they actually are. That's always depressing for me, I just feel like "Oh, these are my friends? What's wrong with the world?"
And that's why I beg secretly that "my band" won't become too big...

yeah i spose...like false advertising? but maybe if you'd have heard them, then seen what they were like you'd think about them differently.

People take this whole Alternative/Mainstream thing far too seriously.

I don`t really care what anyone else is listening to. I`ve heard lots of good & bad 'obscure' music and the same could be said of mainstream music.
