Damn... downloading music. I feel like the first album I downloaded was near the end of Napster. I think I used Morpheus, this was on dial up internet before cable. Speaking of which, when was high speed internet first available for residential use? I can't even remember. Anyway, I think the first full album I ever downloaded was either Agent Orange Living in Darkness or Sum 41 All Killer No Filler. I remember downloading songs before that, I remember getting some SR-71, Incubus, and RHCP songs when I was in 7th grade.

The first rock album I bought was OK Go by OK Go. The first "indie" album I bought would have been Farm by Dinosaur Jr. I don't do much album "buying"... ;)

U2 - The Joshua Tree (sigh)
Straight back in '92. On cassette. What? |
I'm old enough to agree with the idea that 'alternative' just meant anything that wasn't mainstream and covered a whole range of music. I find the way that people try and talk about 'alternative' as a genre in itself a bit weird to be honest.
On that basis, the first album that I bought with my own money was a second-hand copy of 'Road to Ruin' by the Ramones in 1979. And, much to some's bemusement I'm sure, thanks to a geographical oddity I'm still a dial-up user and have been since 1997! |
