My first alternative album was Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins back in 1997.
My first indie album was probably You're a Woman, I'm a Machine by Death From Above 1979 back when that was released in 2004. I really wasn't that into "indie" music much when I was younger but I thought the cover looked interesting, also there was this really hot punk senior at my high school that had the pin on her backpack so I wanted to impress her. |
The first compilation I bought was Bonkers 16, Best of Bonkers, Bonkers 17
Ages ago, roughly last yearish when that's what I was into. First CD altogether was probably some Vengaboys shit  Atomic Kitten as well  First one I stole from my brother was, Rezerection the awakening of '95. A Classic. those tunes still appear on setlists. plus it's rare and costs about £30 these days. OOOOOOPS, i thought this was in General music. Eh my first Indie album would have been Glasvegas, if thats what they come under. |
I think the first alternative cd I bought was The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore, which is still one of my favorite albums ever. Chalk full of gems.

Radiohead - the Bends. Sorry to mention their name.

When you get down to it, the first alternative album (although not-so-much an 'alternative' anymore) was this fine little number right here:
Remains one of my favorite albums. As for "indie" releases I really can't remember but I would assume I got my first one during my bulk-downloading phase I went through earlier this year. Quote:

Let's see:
First 45"- The Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down to Georgia First full length LP - The Oak Ridge Boys - Greatest Hits First Cassette - Motley Crue - Shout at The Devil First CD ' Pink Floyd - Animals |
I think the first "alternative" album (tape) I bought was Violent Femmes s/t. Around the same time I got Mother's Milk by RHCP, Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction, and Head on the Door by The Cure. These are what taught me that there was more to music than metal, punk, and top 40 pop.
