I listened to em when they were the Format, and i enjoy the Format so much better.

They really screwed up somewhere between Aim & Ignite and Some Nights.
Aim & Ignite was an incredibly solid album, touching on some pop while still carrying enough rock influence (a lot being Queen, clear as day) to be a solid and incredible album.
As for Some Nights, I don't know if it's because they got signed to Fueled by Ramen or what, but they went from being very solid to sounding like a relapse of P!ATD's Vices and Virtues.

Because there was such a big time gap between Aim & Ignite and Some Nights, the original fans have latched onto their previous sound so much that Some Nights now sounds alien. I'll agree there was absolutely no gradual process involved. They just straight up changed their sound.

But I do think some of the original fans are just pulling that "They were cool before they were mainstream" bull****.

I couldn't care less that they changed their sound, I like it when artists change their sound. I don't want to have 18 copies of the same album with a different name.
It's just that the sound they've grown into is one that, to me, sounds more commercial than their previous work.

On a positive note, their Live At Fingerprints album is great, I don't know if they've released any other live material since then, but if you're just getting into them Live At Fingerprints is the album to check out.

Hmm. What's so wrong with commercial? There's good commercial and bad commercial.

It just sounds a lot less heart-filled to me. It's that sort of when you walk through a mall and you see displays of art that seem to only be there just to say that there's art in the mall.
I'm very pretentious about my art, Duraddict.

What did you like about Aim & Ignite? I much prefer the newer album to the old one.

Haha. Fair enough. Personally, I love both records.

Probably the same reason you like Some Nights.
It just really is interesting and new to me whenever I listen to it. I love how the songs are stories too. I love stories.

Being a big fan of Queen, I find Fun to be unbearable. I have only heard their second album though.
