Our Lady Peace

Does anyone else here like them?

They were(at a time) my favourite band, now while they still might get into my top 10, I still think they are fantastic.

They have a new album due out in may, and i really like their new single "Heavyweight".

I still say though, that so far, their best two albums are their first two.

Thoughts?

Yeah I really like Our Lady Peace. If they are on the radio I will listen to them and stuff. :thumb:

Agreed, hell I even heard people say the only really good thing the band released was the first half of their first album. Starseed and Naveed are FANTASTIC tracks, Superman's Dead wasn't horrible but I don't think it aged well.

Personally I found Raine Maida to be a bit too much in all regards. From what I understand one of the main reasons the early discs have a different feel and an actual rock edge to them was their original guitarist (Mike Turner) who subsequently quit when the band he started, after they got big and Maida's head / attitude / ego expanded in line with it.

I'll admit I haven't paid attention to OLP in years, but the last time I heard anything it sounded like a pretentious ripoff of Radiohead. They also stand as the absolute worse live band I've ever seen. Back in 1998 they were the most boring, flat, and predictable band on a festival stage. I honest to crap couldn't tell if they played live or just cranked the cd.

Really? I like Superman's Dead up till today and they play it all the time on Music Choice it seems so like I have heard it 3-4 times over the last few months.

Even back in the day I found the AieeeAieeeAieeeAieeeEEEeeeEEEeeeeEEeee of the chorus grating. The big joke was Maida sang like a donkey.

Did you ever get into I Mother Earth? I bring them up because they were another band from Toronto that popped up around the same time as OLP. Something about the phonetic relationship within the 3 words that made up each band name lead to a lot of confusion between the groups with my peers. IME was far superior to my ears.

Nope. Never heard of them.

Frankly when I think of Canadian music I only think of Bryan Adams and Leonard Cohen. Sorry.

I loved Sceneary and the Fish. But after that, they kinda sucked IMO.

You're missing out hehehe

I also agree with AutomaticChaos, IME kind of tanked once they changed singers. I've read rumours about possible new material coming out, but I don't think reconciling the original band will ever happen.

What did you think of Edwin's solo album? "Hangten" was or is a decent track. The rest of the album was a massive yawn to me.

Well, this is a nostalgia thread now for me.

Of course, being in Canada helps you know all the 90's alt-rock bands it spawned.

"Naveed" was one of the first CD's I bought. I believe the first 2 I got were "Naveed" and Headstones "Picture of Health". I know "Picture of Health" was the first CD I bought, believe "Naveed" was second... though it may have been Live's "Mental Jewelry" album.

Got "Clumsy" on cassette, remember my grandma gave me $10 and told me not to spend it on music... so I spent it on music.

But yeah, OLP are not one of my favorites, but i still have a soft spot for the first 2 albums, after that, not much of a fan. They got lamer and lamer in my opinion.

IME, I like "Dig" and "Scenery and Fish", the Edwin years... they got that newfie whose name I can not be bothered to remember, and I thought he sucked.

IME opened for Moist in 1996 as well, but on all dates but the one in my city, we got Ginger instead, and I was disappointed, cause Ginger kinda sucked.

Remember it was Moist/Ginger/By Divine Right.

But yeah, Canadian alt-rock.... probably still my favorite:
