5 Essentilal Britpop Albums?
So, I've been pretty heavy into Britpop lately, and I thought maybe a thread like this would be able to introduce me to some favorites of you guys that I haven't heard yet, so let's get this started!
1. Oasis - Definitely Maybe 2. Blur - Modern Life Is Rubbish 3. Stone Roses - S/T 4. Manic Street Preachers - Holy Bible 5. Pulp - This Is Hardcore So how bout you guys? |
Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish Suede - Dog Man Star erm, dunno about the rest - i don't really listen to much Britpop |
Regarding Pulp His N Hers is much more appropriate.
Try: The Auteurs - After Murder Park |

What are some of your other fav britpop albums Jackhammer? |
The best Britpop album is Elastica's S/T. The other four:
Suede - Suede Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish Pulp - A Different Class The Verve - Urban Hymns A big shout to The Auteurs too, New Wave is essential but I can't quite class it as Britpop, it was a little bit before its time, making it a big influence. |
just as i wouldn't class Manic Street Preachers' Generation Terrorists (UK) as Britpop, it's more glam-punk
still awesome, though |
The Stone Roses S/T isn't BritPop to be fair.
I love that Elastica album, both in fact. |
Pulp also has Different Class under their belt, which is, in my opinion, a bit more consistent than This Is Hardcore. I'd also probably rank Parklife as Blur's essential Britpop album; at the very least, it made the bigger impact on the genre.
Depending on what you classify as Britpop, I could also see throwing in the Arctic Monkeys debut, though most people would throw that into a different genre altogether. |
So who do you guys think is the overall best Britpop band?
I'm definitely gonna check out that Elastica album, is their second album worth buying? Also, I never listened to the Stone Roses "Second Coming" is that any good? One more thing, I only have Radiator by the Super Furry Animals, what else should I pick up by them? Is their Outspaced collection any good? |
My overall favourite is probably Parklife, though there are several that are up there with it.
