Anyone ever heard of this band? I just discovered them via Pandora. They're really cool, really unique style. They are a "Psychedelic Roots Indie Rock" band
that consists of Joey Welch, Mike Graves, Michele Long, Brett Cantrell, Vincent Jackson. Joey Welch has recorded three albums with world-renowned engineer/producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies).
He has a really unique guitar style.

I'm slowly going through these, Blast, and its certainly different but in no way bad. Whats confusing to me (on the first video) is that they're using organic instruments to create a synthetic sound.

It might sound maybe like they've run the guitar through a peddle or something, but that trumpet (?) is so great. Really sells the thing for me.

No. Bah. Its a weird (and bad) combination between attempted humor and socially conscious. Its like BNL listened to one too many rage against the machine CD's.

This riff makes me want to have sex with inanimate objects because they're closer than actual people. And the Tuba is how I imagine it would sound if I had sex with this filing cabinet. I'm not really a fan of their lyrics, but the music is really good. I don't get what this 60's gospel revival **** it. but they can't all be gems.

Not bad sounding and cool as hell to watch.

I didn't really like The second video either, don't even know why I posted it. It just happened to be one that I was listening to when I started the thread, so I just posted it. Thought someone else might like it. O ya, all the videos I posted are the only material I've heard from them, so I guess that explains why i posted it. :laughing: I don't pay much attention to the lyrics, I didn't really like the guys voice at first either. What really attracted me is the instrumentation and the unique style. And yes, the riff in video three is ****in great. So, we can agree they're pretty cool? I haven't heard enough to say much else. However, Video one and video three are pretty damn cool, in my opinion.

Well the brass is amazing, and adding the tap-dancing in, while not mindblowing does add a different type of percussion than I think you're used to hearing so it makes a difference in the overall recipe.

The tap dancing is pretty unique. I think the guitar playing is pretty good, too.

Oh certainly. I don't know if its unique per say, cept for that third riff it didn't really stand out.

I think the 4th video shows some pretty unique guitar playing. I mean, it's not like he's doing something entirely original and there are definitely better and more unique guitarists; but it's still not exactly standard or typical. I agree, the lick in the 3rd video stands out most, but I haven't heard enough to say that he doesn't have more guitar playing that's as good. Just by looking at the finger work in the third video, I don't see how he's getting the lick with the technique he's using. It's a pretty odd tapping technique.
