Pixies
big big big fan. anyone with me here? if so, favourite songs and albums?
favourite songs for me are "hey", "here comes your man", "gouge away", "monkey gone to heaven" and "veluoria". favourite album without a doubt- doolittle. |
Doolittle is their best album without a doubt. The hardcore fans might be sick of listening to it, but it is what it is. Im a big fan of UMass and Debaser. When I worked at a record store a huge fan of their who I worked with made me get Doolittle. I've only heard those songs and the hits, but im suprsed how obscure they've been considering their really good.
Even the spanish stuff is kick ass. I don't know more than 15 words in spanish. |

I'm a fan myself. I saw them w/ the Thrills during their reunion tour. :) |
Surfer Rosa is my favorite album, but more for sentimental reasons than anything else. I'd have to agree that Doolittle is their best album. Tromp Le Monde is very good too.
|
My favorite Pixies song would have to be Gouge Away.
|
My favourite album is bossanova. the first 3 songs, probably the best into to an album.

Yeah I like them as well but I haven't got round to buying an album by them yet. 'Here Comes Your Man' and 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' are my favourite songs I have heard.

I find though, that im Super addicted to UMass. Maybe because I go there. (not the one he's singing about, but i still do damn it) |
Anything Kim Deel was involved rocks... but I have to agree that Doolittle tops the lot...

Tell me "The Funky Drummer" is not one of the best funk songs ever. |

Anyway. i bought Trompe Le Monde today for £4.99. thanks HMV! and i have to say its a pretty ****ing good album! |
"Where is My Mind?", "Velouria", and "Tame" are my favs.
|
I've only got a best of at the mo, death to the pixies, but It's one of the best, bests of that i've heard, pretty much every song on it kicks ass. My fav's are Nimrods son, Gouge away, Monkey gone to heaven. oh and Gigantic
|
heck yes...love the Pixies. monkey gone to heaven and album doolittle. i loved when they played the pixies at the end of Fight Club... i almost cried.
|
Where is my mind was a great ending song for fight club.
|
I'm going to see the Pixies!! :tramp:
Doolittle was originally my faveourite, I think its easier to get into as 'Debaser' 'Here comes your man' 'Monkey gone to heaven' etc are so good! So good other bands felt the need to copy the tune. Bossanova is really great as well though. |

just kidding ;) |
Not yet, unlike you I'm still a young thing :p:
Just kidding ;) |
Age means nothing when you look as good as me
|
They'er playing at lalapolooooooooooooza this year .... be there, it will be an awesome show.
|
I have ordered Doolittle from eBay just waiting for it to arrive.
|
Now i`m not doubting the genius of the pixies here.
I just hate it that they have to even reform just because people were too lazy to check them out the first time around. I just think it`s sad that in 2005 people are hearing Doolittle for the first time , even though it came out 17 years ago |

I wasn`t talking about age.
I was referring more to the fact that in the 80s they were possibly the biggest Indie band around (Maybe with the exception of REM) and also one of the biggest influences in the 90s 'alternative' *cough* movement & yet people have to go out & discover them rather than come into contact with them through the usual channels. |

Secondly, I agree with REM being bigger, I think U2 was bigger as well, and im sure there was another one im forgetting. |

great use of backing facts to support some random statement. |

the smiths the cure new order REM jesus and mary chain dire straights the specials madness the clash ultravox ozzy siouxie & the banshees queen 80 had some good indie, electro-rock going on. i liked the 2-tone movement aswell. but ive always said, the hair metal scene always tarnishes my view of the 80s, i tend to forget about the pluses. good bands though. |
Fair enough, but its not just hair metal, I wasn't speaking blindly when i said there were novelty acts abound. The hard part is making an argument when you can't remember their names. Aside from my own rememberence of what horrors existed then, if you've ever caught "I love the 80's" on VH1, then you would know what I meant. Songs about convoys and something with donald duck, im sure there was a packman song. Micky you're so fine, whatever the Knack wrote.
As I've said, I can't conjure every crap song that they dished out then, but the fact is that the 80's was inundated with garbage. |
The Chameleons
Japan Wire Mission Of Burma The Gun Club Echo & The Bunnymen The Fall Public Enemy The Birthday Party Spacemen 3 Human League Husker Du P.I.L. Just thought I`d add a few more |
