My favorite album would be Doolitle and my favorite tracks would be Letter to Memphise, Something Against you, and Monkey gone to Heaven.

Here Comes Your Man
Caribou
Gigantic
Where Is My Mind
Monkey Gone To Heaven

debaser

pot head
monket gone to heaven
etc...

Sneer 11-23-2005 06:49 AM

why do people always overlook gouge away? that bass line is a killer, and never has a quiet verse-loud chorus structure worked so gloriously.

Picked up a copy of the live show from Reading, which was awesome on the night and sounds pretty damn awesome now as well. Not sure how much selection they have left, but the quality is incredibly high.

Could never chose between "debaser" and "where is my mind?" oh well, as long as we all agree the Pixies kick ass.

iRock 12-09-2005 10:37 AM

I said in another thread that Porcupine Tree was my favorite band, but that was a lie, because this band is my fovrite too.

i love doolittle. I could never get sick of it. Well, actually, the same for the rest of the albums to.

I was pretty pissed when i saw them in the US. I mean, how could weezer open for the pixies. they wouldnt even be a band without thet pixies!!! and like half of the people there didnt even know what the pixies were. GAH.

Greenrevolution 12-31-2005 08:03 PM

just bought doolittle, kickass stuff. love them:)

the pixies are awesome.

velouria is really good live, as well.

Sweet Jane 04-17-2006 11:10 AM

Are they still planning on releasing an album this year, or is Frank too busy with his solo career?

TrampInaTux 04-17-2006 01:39 PM

Only heard one song, Monkey gone to Heaven, and I love it. Definitely going to get the album. They also helped out Nirvana (and vice versa) so that can only be a good thing.

hiu 04-17-2006 03:57 PM

Nirvana didn't help out the Pixies at all, all of their albums pre dated Nevermind other than Trompe le Monde which was released in the same year. Nirvanas first album Bleach was released a year after Surfa Rosa, undoubtedly one of The Pixies most important albums. In conclusion The Pixies may have helped Nirvana, possibly alot but Nirvana played little or no role in the development of The Pixies.

cardboard adolescent 04-17-2006 04:05 PM

I don't think he meant developmentally, more along the lines of Kurt saying "ooh the Pixies so good" and the SHEEP going out to buy Pixies albums.

Or something like that.

TrampInaTux 04-17-2006 04:17 PM

Hiu I meant what Cardboard meant. Of course I knew Pixies pre dated Nirvana, anyone with at least half a brain cell knows that (now I sound really arrogant, oh well.) I meant what Cardboard said only less anti-Nirvana.

hiu 04-17-2006 04:23 PM

Nirvana did that with a million bands. Without Nirvana it would be very hard to find bands like Mission of Burma, The Wipers, The Urinals etc etc in music shops. I thank Nirvana for that, if nothing else.

cardboard adolescent 04-17-2006 04:37 PM

And yet I still can't find the Raincoats anywhere...

And Frank Zappa's endorsement hasn't led me to Philosophy of the World yet.

Wookai 04-17-2006 04:46 PM

Recently picked up two of their albums, Bossanova & Doolittle, both great albums although my favourite song atm. is Dig for Fire.

Absolutely class.

Cheers!

IndiElectronica 04-18-2006 03:26 AM

Dig For Fire has always been my favorite song... I won't say it's their best, but for some reason it's always clicked best with me...

Piss Me Off 04-18-2006 04:55 AM

I can't help but smile when listening to Surfer Rosa, especially when Frank and Kim scream on 'Bone Machine'. Favourite Pixies song is probably 'Caribou'.

Why is that a problem?... If someone got a Pixies album because they were one of Kurts favorite bands then thats surely a good thing, what better way to get someone exposed to such a great band?

TrampInaTux 04-18-2006 12:18 PM

It's because it's not the 'Punk way'. And I believe the 'Punk way' is a load of bollocks that people use to try and make themselves appear cooler and more musically educated than the rest of us.

IndiElectronica 04-18-2006 12:48 PM

dunno about any 'punk way'. i hear about new bands from loads of different sources (inc boards like this). You have to hear about a band from somewhere!

TrampInaTux 04-18-2006 12:54 PM

The punk way is where you are supposed to listen to bands that aren't mainstream and not follow the crowd and listen to whatever else is listening to. Look it up on wikipedia or something for the full definition. You are right about having to hear about a band from somewhere, but followers of the 'Punk way' will only listen to bands through the Punk scene. They can't listen to bands via commercial airplay or whatever. Which is the dumbest thing ever. It's a very restricting rule that doesn't really allow for much scope around the music business. To me followers of the Punk way are very small minded, and are just sheep themselves.

That philosophy is a little similar to the "prog way" as well. :)

But yes, that is rather retarded.

TrampInaTux 04-18-2006 01:39 PM

Yes it is a total load of bollocks. I talk to people about an old band that I have only recently discovered and I usually find them from some of my mainstream sources such as bands etc. and they are always like 'oh you follow the herd.' What ****ing herd? The same as you following your little group of friends who will only listen to bands that haven't sold more than 1,000 records or so? I do get my music from mainstream sources and I will continue to. I don't care whether I only heard about The Pixies through Nirvana. I heard about them some way so does it make a difference? If it wasn't for me being a 'SHEEP' then I would never have been broken into The Pixies, and now I'm going to get an album of theirs. Oh dear, how terrible is that? To put it lightly, those who follow the Punk way can suck my big hairy balls.

Didn`t work for Teenage Fanclub.

Just as well really

hiu 04-18-2006 02:51 PM

There is no sauch thing as this "punk way". I for one buy Rolling Stones albums and 100 pressed punk singles in my spare time.

swim 04-18-2006 03:03 PM

if anything it's indie elitism not the punk way

Elitist is elitist, every genre has their elitist... There are prog elitists, punk elitists, metal elitists, alternative elitists.

Prog elitists are pretty bad, but metal and punk elitists can be worse, alternative rock fans tend to be the most open minded.

Frank is a lying old fart. They talked about working on a new in-studio album during their reunion tour, and I dunno if the idea ever surfaced. Maybe they're milking this whole one-album-every-decade thing.

cardboard adolescent 04-18-2006 05:24 PM

Hehe I make one little joke and everyone gets their panties in a bunch.

Relax a little, people. Or should I say... SHEEP!

Yes there is, and yes it could be called Indie elitism but the Punk fans like to call it the Punk way (well, the Punk fans that I know of) It's following a bunch of unknown Punk bands just so you look good. You can't listen to mainstream music, you can't dabble in genres. Like I said before, load of bollocks.

boo boo 04-19-2006 03:12 AM

I can name at least one band or artist i like from every genre, even those i dont paticularly care for.

I dont like to limit myself to genres, genres are just descriptions to help describe the sound of certain artists, and the history of that "sound"... It's not meant to be some club where everyone who is a membe can't join another club or else they are un-hip, or something like that.

But i know the feeling, i used to get poked fun of on the progarchives forum a lot because i like The Ramones. :(

TrampInaTux 04-19-2006 03:17 AM

I have no particularly great knowledge in any genre. I suppose my age has a lot to do with that, but it's also because I like to move to different genres all the time. I wouldn't credit myself as loving any genre, I like most of them equally. I think this is a more rewarding way to view music that being a fanboy of one genre and looking no further. Broaden your horizons, people, you'll never know what you might find...
