Yes it is a total load of bollocks. I talk to people about an old band that I have only recently discovered and I usually find them from some of my mainstream sources such as bands etc. and they are always like 'oh you follow the herd.' What ****ing herd? The same as you following your little group of friends who will only listen to bands that haven't sold more than 1,000 records or so? I do get my music from mainstream sources and I will continue to. I don't care whether I only heard about The Pixies through Nirvana. I heard about them some way so does it make a difference? If it wasn't for me being a 'SHEEP' then I would never have been broken into The Pixies, and now I'm going to get an album of theirs. Oh dear, how terrible is that? To put it lightly, those who follow the Punk way can suck my big hairy balls.

Or something like that.
Didn`t work for Teenage Fanclub.

Just as well really

Elitist is elitist, every genre has their elitist... There are prog elitists, punk elitists, metal elitists, alternative elitists.

Prog elitists are pretty bad, but metal and punk elitists can be worse, alternative rock fans tend to be the most open minded.

Frank is a lying old fart. They talked about working on a new in-studio album during their reunion tour, and I dunno if the idea ever surfaced. Maybe they're milking this whole one-album-every-decade thing.

Yes there is, and yes it could be called Indie elitism but the Punk fans like to call it the Punk way (well, the Punk fans that I know of) It's following a bunch of unknown Punk bands just so you look good. You can't listen to mainstream music, you can't dabble in genres. Like I said before, load of bollocks.

I can name at least one band or artist i like from every genre, even those i dont paticularly care for.

I dont like to limit myself to genres, genres are just descriptions to help describe the sound of certain artists, and the history of that "sound"... It's not meant to be some club where everyone who is a membe can't join another club or else they are un-hip, or something like that.

But i know the feeling, i used to get poked fun of on the progarchives forum a lot because i like The Ramones.

I have no particularly great knowledge in any genre. I suppose my age has a lot to do with that, but it's also because I like to move to different genres all the time. I wouldn't credit myself as loving any genre, I like most of them equally. I think this is a more rewarding way to view music that being a fanboy of one genre and looking no further. Broaden your horizons, people, you'll never know what you might find...
