I can't imagine why there would be save for 10+ years from now when Social Security is dust and they need the money.

No offense to the other band members but I hope it stays that way. The Pixies is basically a solo project as far as I know. No disrespect to the other members, but They + Travis have never been the Pixies. It's all him. At this point they'll all be better off making their own music without attaching the Pixies name. |

I have not listened to an iota of Pixies material in over a year. No reason at all. I should probably see to that soon.

The Pixies are back?
New track (without kim deal)
Afterlife to the Pixies: Hear Kim Deal-Less Band's 'Bagboy,' First Song in Nine Years | SPIN | SPIN Mix | Videos |
This is seemingly from out of nowhere, I had no idea they intended to write new material.
|
Interesting...whoever Jeremy Dubs is, he sure sounds like a woman..
|
I thought that was Kim at first. But when you really listen to it, it is a man. Its just the mind expects it to be a female voice.

From their website:
Armed with "Bagboy," the band's first new song in nine years, the Pixies will launch the first leg of what will be a massive global tour on Sunday, September 29 in Paris, France. This will kick off the first tour the Pixies have done in nearly two years, and will give them an opportunity to do something they haven't been able to do in two decades : premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe le Monde. PIXIES ANNOUNCE FIRST LEG OF WORLD TOUR I'm fairly certain there will be a new Pixies album. But I hope they have better material than 'Bagboy' up their sleeves. If the new album is a pale shadow of their original output I will find it impossible to see their ongoing reunion as nothing other than a cash-in job. |
Who cares if its bad or good. The fact that its a new Pixies album is the biggest event in music in..................................a long time.

Love the Pixies. Not listened to their new song yet, need to give it a listen. Hopefully a new album's in the works?
My favourite song of theirs would probably be Mr Grieves. |

I saw this band at music midtown in Atlanta when I was 14 and they were great. I'm 22 now. Does anybody know some other notable Pixies shows that can be considered great in their live catalog?
|
Love the pixies as well since i watched fight club - best film in the world btw - with where is your mind. awesome!
|
Big fan, as you can probably tell from my username. (Also, awesome points for anyone who recognizes my avatar)
If I were to rank their albums (including Come On Pilgrim) it would go something like: 1. Doolittle 2. Surfer Rosa 3. Come On Pilgrim 4. Trompe le Monde 5. Bossanova Explanation for the ranking: Doolittle and Surfer Rosa are my definite favourites, but the reason I put Doolittle the highest, is partly because I think it works better as a whole and that my average enjoyment of the tracks are a bit higher, I guess. I'm not altogether sure which one I like best out of Come On Pilgrim and Trompe le Monde, so I basically went with my gut feeling, but they could easily be put the other way around. Bossanova is decidedly my least favourite since it has a few tracks that I don't care for all too much, and none of the other albums has any. Favourite songs overall (in no particular order): Monkey Gone to Heaven Velouria Where Is My Mind? River Euphrates (An underrated song in their catalogue in my opinion) Ed Is Dead I Bleed No. 13 Baby Letter to Memphis Gigantic Caribou |
Indie Cindy
Might be one of their best

EP2 was released last Friday. Might be more solid than EP1 but nothing that strikes me as awesome quite yet. PIXIES | Four New Songs |
Doolittle album, that's for sure a really splendid album.

Surfer Rosa > Doolittle
IMO. |

Pixiessss
ok recently i really started obsessing over pixies because they got some great songs. I've got nothing else to say so if you also love these guys reply to me
|
Really love the earlier Pixies stuff, up through Doolittle. I saw them on their first US tour, on the day Surfer Rosa was released. My top ten Pixies songs, in no particular order (except the first one) and subject to change:
I've Been Tired Nimrod's Son Levitate Me Weird At My School Cactus River Euphrates Down To The Well (not the version on Bossanova) Wave Of Mutilaton Gouge Away Ed Is Dead |
I once owned all the studio albums, long before a reunion occurred, but ended up shedding them all apart from Doolittle. That album is almost perfect but the others are spotty at best.
Bossanova would be my (distant) second favourite and Trompe le Monde has the odd fine track. |
I resent the implied Surfer Rosa slander, but I agree that Doolittle is the best one

LOL! It's across the board, I'm afraid. There came a point in time where I decided to only keep albums that were (IMO) exceptionally consistent and really meant something to me. If I didn't do that, my music collection would be double the size it currently is now and largely unmanageable. |
Yeah gotcha
I agree Surfer Rosa is less consistent but I would still rank it above Bossanova and TLM |

IMHO, Surfer Rosa is probably the quirkiest of the first four full-length studio albums, but I found it to be the least substantial. Bone Machine, Gigantic and Where is My Mind? are still excellent cuts, but the rest I can easily live without. Anyway, I’m the type of music lover who usually swims against the tide of popular opinion. For example, many consider Slowdive’s best album to be Souvlaki, which I think is utter bull (especially if one knows the background and has heard the shelved demos). But, hey, different strokes... |

Souvlaki was the sign of a band losing their confidence and pandering towards the flakiness of Alan McGee, who heavily criticised the original demos. Sonically, I found the dynamics on this album to be flat, in comparison to Just for a Day. Even the Brian Eno collaboration is lame. Pygmalion is good in parts but it sounds unfinished and lacks focus. I think the demo bootleg from this period is far superior. With that said, Just for a Day and The Pygmalion Demos are the only Slowdive albums I consider worth owning. As for the monstrosity that is the 2017 comeback album, don't get me started on that... |
Finally gave their 2019 album a listen and whilst it's not bad or anything I do wish they didn't reunite, those first 2 are classics and Bossanova is excellent as is Trompe Le Monde but there's no spark now, there's the odd really good track but that's about it.

I must confess I did not read through all 44 pages of previous responses but if no one has mentioned the song The Happening off of Bossanova, it deserves some love!
