Paisley Underground
Anyone a fan of the Paisley Underground? It's basically a music scene that took place in the West Coast of the United States during the 1980s... It ended up being fairly influential in the creation of indie/alternative rock as well as neo-psychedelia.
Here are a few songs by four of my favorite bands from the scene: I highly recommend Moonhead by Think White Rope and The Dream Syndicate's debut album. Anyways... please feel free to share your thoughts on the movement (as well as your favorite bands, albums, etc). :) |
The Days of Wine and Roses is my favourite album from the scene I think. Gravity Talks by Green on Red is great too. The Rain Parade and Opal were really good, and Mazzy Star are amazing... although by the time they released She Hangs Brightly it's highly contentious as to whether there was a scene any more.
The Dunedin Sound was more interesting I think, but the handful of Paisley bands that stood above mediocrity were generally fantastic. |
What albums from The Dunedin Sound would you recommend looking into?
|
The Bats - Daddy's Highway
The Chills - Kaleidoscope World Bailter Space - Tanker Straightjacket Fits - Hail The Verlaines - Bird Dog The Clean - Anthology They're all great albums. |
The Dream Syndicate's first album is really good, loads of good riffs on that thing. I dig Opal too, they've a nice, psychedelic sound.

Yeah, I'd say they're probably my favourite from the scene too, they lost it a bit in the 90s but their 80s work more than makes up for that. Straightjacket Fits are one of my favourites too, in fact I'd say Hail is my top Dunedin album.

I'm currently getting that Thin White Rope album mentioned in the original post - had never heard of this band before, but I'm hoping it's on par with Opal and The Dream Syndicate. |
I downloaded that too, shall report back.
