"Slacker" is how Mascis made virtuosic electric guitar playing "cool" enough to become prevalent in indie rock. Before Dinosaur Jr., punks preferred three-chord guitar and if you played a solo you were ostracized. With his "don't give a **** attitude" Mascis's guitar skill was embraced because it didn't seem like he was doing it for attention (when of course he obviously was)...
