This album was recorded in 2004 and it is actually by a "Final Fantasy" which is the solo project name that Canadian musician Owen Pallet often releases under. The album has 16 tracks. It is Final Fantasy's first album. Owen Pallett is a composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist from Toronto, Ontario. Pallett has been noted for his live performances, wherein he plays the violin into a loop pedal, a technique also used by musicians such as Andrew Bird, Jeremy Larson, Emily Wells and Zoë Keating. The name Final Fantasy, under which Pallett recorded prior to the release of Heartland, was a tribute to the well-known video game series, of which Pallett is a fan.

Cool fact from wikipedia that I never knew:
The Win and Regine referred to in "This Is The Dream of Win & Regine" are Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire, the band with whom Pallett plays live (and often opens for) and for whom he arranged the orchestral sections on their albums. The title of the song is also a reference to "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan," a song by Dntel and Ben Gibbard that was the seed of the pair's collaboration as The Postal Service.

What did you guys think of it?

Well, I guess I could start this off!

Just seeing this title again made me a little pissed :). I was at a festival, I think it was two years back, me and a friend were watching Arctic Monkeys and we left early to stand in line to get into the church in which both Andrew Bird and Final Fantasy were playing. Sadly not enough people left from the bands earlier, so we didn't get in, instead we ended up standing for about an hour in line, ah well. Anyways, enough OT. I really like this album. It really has this mellow, thought-inducing sound. The mixture of the violin and the clever lyrics really make for an alternative and pleasant sound. For you people who haven't got around to listening to this - do it - it's probably not like much else you've heard before.

Yea, I wouldn't really call it brilliant, but I certainly enjoyed the violin parts that sewed the the tracks together beautifully. For me, finding decent contemporary indie rock (that doesn't sound generic) can be a bit difficult, however, this album is certainly unique and very enjoyable.

I will probably end up looking more into this guys work in the future.

I basically agree. I've listened to it over a few different times and there are a lot of interesting moments in it. Definitely not a sound that you hear a lot of other places. It's all written in a very contemporary orchestral way that I think comes into the progression of the album.

A few tracks that are my favourites include That's When the Audience Died, Please Please Please, and The Chronicles of Sarnia. There's one part of Please Please Please that reminds me of The Beach Boys, who I don't like, but I still like that part of the song and think it's cool.
