Manchester Orchestra
About 5 years ago I discovered this band. In my angsty, emo high school phase I saw Brand New live a bunch of time and Manchester Orchestra opened for them and I thought they had a cool sound and really started to like them.
Their first released album was back in 2006 and I listened to it a lot, then kinda put them on the backburner and forgot about them. Then this year they had a song in a video game I bought and I saw them on Letterman the other night. They had an album put out this year that I need to download. I'm not good with genres, but their wikipedia says indie rock so I threw this thread in this forum. Here's their Letterman performance that I really liked. Here's the song from the video game which I also love. I have a feeling I'm gonna love this entire album. |
I really, really dig the tracks "Wolves at Night", "I Can Barely Breathe", and "Where Have You Been?" from their first album. I thought their sophomore album was a considerable step in the wrong direction, and I listened to their new single the other week and didn't care for it at all.

I saw them at Memphis in May, and i did think their sound was really interesting, from what i could tell it was kinda a real dark/intense atmospheric sound. I'm fond of the singer's voice also.
So their first album is good? Innnnteresting. |
Like a Virgin a Child is good the new one is garbage.

I really like their new album, "Simple Math." If you haven't heard it, you should. Although, I couldn't help getting a Modest Mouse vibe from it while I was listening to it. It's still really good. I saw them live, at Memphis in May. They weren't as spectacular as I thought they would be. Maybe it was because they were the first band playing, so they weren't really pumped or something. They just seemed a little uninterested. They were still good live, but they were a little "bleh" while they were playing.
BTW, my favorite song from their previous albums is "Where Have You Been?". I haven't listened much to their new album- not enough to have a favorite yet. But I really like "Deer." |
I loved the song they ended on though, i felt like it was directed to the crowd for talking a whole bunch, but it couldn't have been. It was still so bitter though.
