actualy after reading rave reviews about this album i went to check it out and found nothing special about him...he sounds like boy george or summat ( some people compared his voice to that of nina simone...boy were they talking out of their arses...)
if you want beautiful tunes get cold roses from ryan adams....

i downloaded this album right before i went home and i can't stop listening to it. one of the most captivating albums of 2005, absolutely beautiful. his voice is nothing short of amazing and the nina simone comparisons stand ( i should really think before i post sometimes ). from the haunting opener "hope there's someone", through the 90 second masterpiece of "what can i do" and the hopeful closer of "bird ghurl", it's absolute perfection. heartbreaking and beautiful. my sister also can't get enough of it. ( my mid sister's comment was " em....it's odd..." *sigh*...why do i bother with her)

I was wondering if Antony was ever gonna come up here. I love Antony and the Johnsons... he identifies himself as a woman, and lives life as a woman - but as a sex is a man. It's insane, it's beautiful... and he does sound like Boy George, and Boy George has even done some tracks with him. Caught Anytony and the J's and Devendra Banhart together in Chicago.

I'm sure if I love this or hate it. It's different. It's good whether I like it or not.

First time I started playing "Bird", and hearing that voice come booming through on "Hope There's Someone", I was immediately enthralled. Maybe even one of those "what the heck is this about" unsure moments. "Is this gonna be good, or just wierd?" I thought. But it just got into me, and by the big piano build-up in that opening song, I knew I was gonna be in for a treat.
It's just so moving and (in a good way) dramatic. I dig the other albums, but "I am a Bird Now" is still my favourite. I even had "You Are My Sister" played at my sis' wedding for our dance.
