Is anyone going to see them at electric picnic in Ireland?? I wish i was!
|
I wish they would come to America most of these bands from the UK just tour the UK and Europe and Australia .
|
So I got the new album yesterday and sounds like much of what they been doing in the past with some dabs of electronia. The album is pretty stale for me I cant pick out a fav track. I might give it another listen though.

Well, like I said in the album thread, I don't think it's as good as their previous albums, but it's still very good and fun to listen to. I like all the songs except for the last two. It goes to their credit that they've managed to keep my attention for 3 albums, unlike their contemporaries The killers and Bloc Party. And The Rakes...:\

I've always been willing to forgive Franz Ferdinand for their generic unoriginal dance-rock because they are:
a) first and foremost a pop group by their own admission b) at least tried to be cool by appearing on the Fall documentary and generally bigging up brilliant Scottish post-punk of the 80's, so they listen to good music at least c) last week's appearance on 'the Culture Show', which went in-depth into the making of their last album. It sounds horrible (jumping on the electro-revival bandwagon much?) but they seem like a nice intelligent bunch. Plus none of them are ugly :D |

meh, they just sound like an amalgam of the (much-exploited during the music press' 'post-punk revival') Gang of Four sound and Orange Juice/Fire Engines (Postcard Records bands in general) to me... although this isn't a bad thing as I said but they just seem like an inferior rehash of those bands, who also had an ear for tunes and hooks.
But you can't go around just disliking bands for sounding like other ones (that's the foundation of music 99% of the time right?) so I'll just say I find them personally a bit annoying. The synchronized stepping moves being one reason :D |
I've never heard anything remotely as good, catchy or danceable by Gang of four, so I really don't understand the comparison. They had a beat too, that's about as far as that parallel goes.

As for the pop angle, this is what I was saying I preferred (I am aware of the fact that guitar-pop goes in cycles because everything has already been done with the medium). All Scottish bands aswell :D YouTube - orange juice - rip it up edit: this is weird i feel like i'm having a discussion with James Franco... please be kind :p |
