What do you mean, "chances are"? No, see, the chances are you can figure out what a band is up to by listening to the music. For example, it follows trivially that 6 minute tracks with no obvious attempts at hooks are not attempts at creating commercially viable pop music.

All you're really arguing, whenever you tout that sort of trollop, is that you can't know for sure. Well, nothing's 100%. But the evidence of a band's output gets you pretty close to the reality.
