You're one of them because you can't count to 45.

No one band on the face of the planet, past or present can escape a divided opinion so whats the ****ing point in filling a thread with statements like "Muse sucks"?
And even though Muse have many singles that have gotten frequent radio play in the past and will continue to do so there is a clear window for a compromise here as far as i can tell. Cave, Showbiz, Citizen Erased, Space Dementia, Micro cuts, Screenager, Megalomania, Blackout, Ruled By Secrecy, Map Of The Problematique, Soldiers Poem, Hoodoo........all Muse album tracks that in my opinion are highly unlikely to contain enough commercial value to ever gather frequent to any radio play. |

It's a straightforward fact: the majority of Muse's work is not in a radio-friendly format. Least not in terms of commercial adult alternative radio. It's not even debatable. If you do not know that, then you couldn't have listened to their albums, or paid any attention to them. Simple as. |

Yes but the first part of my post was in response to large portions of this thread addressing the needless, unimaginative postings of people I can only assume are 12 years old and the rest of my post was in response to the rest of the thread and the main discussion going on. I wasnt using Muse's commercial value, or lack thereof (whichever way you look at it) as an explanation for whether or not I like them. Quote:
As far as I can tell you think the same way I do regarding Muse. Muse tend to release commercial singles and have some very non commercial album tracks. It could be argued that this is largely responsible for their success. I fell in love with tracks like Citizen Erased, Micro Cuts, Space Dementia etc that have little chance of getting any radio play while the likes of Plug In Baby was getting played around the clock on commercial radio. I offered this as a compromise, as it means both sides of the argument are correct in my opinion and I still got flamed for it so I would just give up. You can underline the phrase "majority of Muses material" as much as you want in every single one of your posts until your blue in the face but people are clearly refusing to read that part as it would take away the ammunation they need to argue over the internet, and we all know how important that is. |

This differs from straightforward pop/rock acts, like say, Arctic Monkeys. Such bands are focused on writing music with a commercially viable sound all the way, the difference between the hits and the album tracks merely lying in the hits containing the stronger hooks - but crucially NOT a difference in actual song format. I don't actually like Muse and never have. But to claim that their overall aims and musical vision can be subsumed purely under "pop/rock" is many marks off the truth. |

What do you mean, "chances are"? No, see, the chances are you can figure out what a band is up to by listening to the music. For example, it follows trivially that 6 minute tracks with no obvious attempts at hooks are not attempts at creating commercially viable pop music. All you're really arguing, whenever you tout that sort of trollop, is that you can't know for sure. Well, nothing's 100%. But the evidence of a band's output gets you pretty close to the reality. |
