Please Charlie, they were always a very commercial band, "too scared to be metal but too metal to be cool" as I remember someone saying.
And also remember that they always sounded very similar on every album, going dubstep is the last ditch attempt to sound different.

^^ I don't know what band you're listening to but, in my opinion, Origin of Symmetry sounds completely different to everything else they have done and Showbiz stands alone too.

Actually you do have a fair point, Origin of Symmetry is very different indeed. "Space Dementia" is obviously the most striking example:

I can hear some ideas from classical music mirrored here, listen to the beginning Rachmaninov's second piano concerto to see what I mean:

Not really surprised by the change in style. I used to be a Muse fan, and I still like their early stuff a decent amount, but they have always been pandering douche bags.

They were decent on their first two albums. Showbiz is like a slightly less good version of The Bends but still quite good and with the odd piano now and then. I still think the title track is a killer song no matter what people say.

Origin Of Symmetry is also pretty good with a sound more developed and slightly more adventurous than that of Showbiz with that Space Dementia song which I also still enjoy.

Their B-sides collection from that era has some good stuff on there as well.

Unfortunately, from then onwards they sounded more and more bland with more, more focus on self indulgent pseudo-political themes and just a much more "stadium rock" style generally.

This new stuff just takes the cake though.

Please be fake, please be a joke, or else I think I'll have to make up my own facts, namely that Muse broke up in 2012.

I doubt this is what they're new album will sound like.

According to the youtube comments, a tweet from Matt Bellamy revealed that the new album would, indeed, contain dubstep

RVCA 06-07-2012 06:06 PM

Well, this is a nice surprise
