I suppose Porcupine Tree are most popular with people who tend to download and so their music never seems to sell well and those who aren't prepared to look for their music but do buy chart stuff never come across them.

That made so much more sense in my head.

Yeah, I agree that Porcupine Tree piss over Muse but I do like Muse quite a bit still.

I think Muse's main dropkick into the centre of attention was with their new album and the singles that came with it. That bred heaps of fans who have never heard anything older than Black Holes and Revelations.

PT can do no wrong.

I think Time Is Running Out had a bigger effect on their popularity than anything from Black Holes & Revelations but I can only talk about the UK here.

The thing is that Black Holes and Revelations had 3 huge songs (Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia) which made it big. And the second one almost transcended into Justin Timberlake territory, which made its potential for popularity even bigger.

But I'm only speaking from NZ terms. Muse has always been popular here, but it seems like Muse has been in the top 3 bands listened to in NZ (on last.fm) ever since their new album.

Porcupine Tree never had a Nescafe ad.

Question solved

Well Time is Running Out is the first song I heard from them, heard it on the radio a while back.

And that's what got me a bit interested in them. After that song was played a few times, a lot of other people in my area started to listen to them.

that depends. I would say absolution, but if you like a more raw sound i would recommend origin of symmetry. they're all great though :thumb:

I wish they'd get a greatest hits album out for people in your position. I think it's best to take a couple of songs from each album when you're just starting out. Just to see what they're capable of, I suppose. And when you've got a nice sample you can find your favourite stage in their career straight away.
