Oh in that regard, sure. I feel like "indie" as a movement is closely aligned with what folks here might call "americanism." You know, doing it for yourself, going on merit, the whole 9.

Maybe I've been listening to too much Springsteen. Only his first EP though.

who said the hippies had the strength to reject society? maybe a few of them, sure. but if you talk to people that were around back then, the only thing they rejected was reality... and when the drugs wore off, they had to count on society to lend them a hand in acquiring more.

now they all rely on society to fill their land rovers with gasoline and their children's heads with bullsh*t.

it's a fashion choice, it's a taste in specific music, it's an aesthetic that people go by. They aren't nessicarily even politcal. They don't have to reject established society.

Comparing every cultural movement to "hippies" makes you sound like you're 68 years old.
oh yes they do! go around and just declare that they are indie!!

No. Hippies were embarrassingly earnest. Indie people are drowning in irony. These two states of being are like matter and antimatter, they cannot exist in the same place at the same time.

Yes indie people are obviously stoned, peace-loving long-hairs. Or maybe not.

Its generally in hindsight. The revelation generally comes after you say "boy, that guy was an *******"
