What are some good local bands in your area?
What are some local bands in your area that you're really into? I'm getting really into some local bands around here, especially Nocturnal Static(who's on bandcamp if you want to listen) and Big Surr(lastfm). But I'm interested in hearing some local bands from other areas, so hit me up with some local bands you guys really dig.

Steath spam?

Definitely spam.

Spam with blue eggs and ham.

I can speak for myself and 2 other anonymous people that this is sneaky spam.
|
Sneaky, but I already thought about a topic like this.
I'd like to mention some good dutch bands sometimes. We have some bands no one out of the Netherlands would really get to know unless someone would tell them about it. So... Do we already have something like that? Or should I start a new thread? |
Might work here:
http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...cal-bands.html |
Yeah, probably ;).
I hadn't noticed this thread yet :) |
Just checked it out 'favourite local band' is not exactly what I had in mind.
Do you think it might be worth starting a thread about 'good dutch band throughout the years'? Might be interesting, dunno? Am I even allowed to ask you these questions in this topic? Don't know how strict the mods are, here :) |
Yeah, this thread may as well come down. The other one that was linked up there has a pretty good list, which is what I was looking for. I donno if I was necessarily spamming, I just thought it'd be cool to plug a couple local groups in the process haha. But what do I know, I've only been using forums for like a week. If the people want it down, give them what they want, I got what I wanted out of that other thread.
|
Sounds like you're just a victim of all the actual spammers ;).
You might want to try again and make an official introduction topic, I think that'll do the trick ;) |

I have noticed your picture and I loved them.
But i'm not unfamiliar with forums, I should manage. Thanks anyway! |
Eleni Mandell. Her early stuff is kind of like PJ Harvey's bluesy-rock mixed with Tom Waits balladry. ...Or Tom Waits' cabaret raconteur style mixed with PJ Harvey's more emotional moments. Then she went a little bit country, got a little bit folksy, did a little French pop, collaborated with some people (and is currently collaborating with Inara George from The Bird & The Bee, and Becky Stark from Lavender Diamond as The Living Sisters, a slightly soulful, countrified folk group with great harmonies), and she continues to make great solo records with perhaps a touch more maturity (and a bit more toned down) than her early stuff. Favorite records include her first three: Wishbone, Thrill and Snakebite. Country For True Lovers and Afternoon aren't bad either (particularly the lovely, wistful "American Boy" from Afternoon). I haven't been as impressed with her last two records, The Miracle of 5 and Artificial Fire, but I still love her smokey, sultry voice. Prior to making records, Eleni was the singing voice of Nancy Travis' lounge singer character Lucille in the movie Destiny Turns On the Radio. I'd post some Youtube clips, but my post count isn't high enough, so you'll just have to check them out yourself.

Thanks man, I'm really diggin' this.
|
The Tennis System is a really good band from the DC/Maryland area that I'm really diggin'. The dude that fronts them has phenomenal taste in music and he makes some great music himself, really cool dude. |
Gnarly dude thanks.

Check out Signal To Trust's album Golden Armour. It's one of my favorites.

Quiltary.

I'm in love with this singer/songwriter Kristen Allen-Zito, formerly of the Trucks, who also rock.

Not necessarily indie or anything, but a few buddies of mine had a really great grunge band going for a bit in Charlotte:
Loud All Over on Myspace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads I was good friends with their bassist and drummer. They were getting pretty close to getting booked at some serious gigs in Charlotte, and even in the process of getting a record deal, but they had to split. Bassist and drummer are at college, the singer (bassist's brother) is a spoiled Axl Rose wannabe, and the guitarist.... not a clue. |
None. Absolutely none.

Not sure how much exposure any of these bands get outside of Vancouver but some of them are pretty well known here.
|
^ I love Mother Mother, Said the Whale, Jets Overhead and We are the City
Haven't heard of Parlour Steps but they sound good. From Victoria so it doesn't really prove if they get more exposure or not though haha A few other from this area, some more well known than others: |
The only band I can think of is a hardcore band from around here. Other then that IDK too many indie/alternative bands that are around here right now.

Although most people tend to associate the jam band scene with the Northeastern US moreso than the South, that scene is very much alive in my area. There's even a small festival every year that's comprised of local acts more on the jammy side of things.
First, I'll mention my favorite band in the scene, and one that often tours up in the Northeast, particularly in the Vermont area. Genuine Junk Band The Hard Quartet And some other local bands I just like: Deadbeats and Barkers My buddy Roger (of The Neverly Brothers, another local band) performing with Genuine Junk Band: Whirling Dervish: The Salty Sirens: |
There's quite a few good local bands in Baltimore.
This is Mason Summers. They're a Christian Punk band. I know the people in this band pretty well, they're awesome people. There's also my brother's band. They're called The Funnelcakes. They're a pop punk kind of band. |
I'm from Nova Scotia and as far as music from BC, I've got Dan Mangan and Jets Overhead on my cpu and I love both those bands/artists. The only other one I even remember hearing about is Immaculate Machine.
