Ned's Atomic Dustbin
 

Is anybody familiar with this early 90's alt-rock band? I was lucky enough to stumble upon their first full-length album, God Fodder, in a pawn shop, and I was surprised at how good it is. Fast, pop-punk interspersed with moody shoegazing Cure-ish numbers. I guess a good cliche to fall back on is that they sound like The Replacements meets The Cure meets The Pixies. They have very little originality, but the songs, at least on God Fodder, are really good. I haven't heard any of their other albums, however, so if anybody has anything to say about those, by all means, feel free.

I just wanted to spread the word about this, to my ears, unjustly forgotten band.

God Fodder is all I've heard, too. It's cool.

I remember buying that album back when it was new, then selling it a few years later. "Gray Cell Green" and "Kill Your Television" are pretty good pop songs but overall the album never really did much for me.

Arn't they the band who were famous for selling more t-shirts than records?
They're OK-ish, Kill Your Television is good but I wouldn't take to their other stuff much at all.

No that was more Pop Will Eat Itself whose merchandise still sells today for decent sums- great band too.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin were okay but one of the weaker of the bands in the so called 'Grebo' rock genre which included the aforementioned PWEI, Carter Usm, Jesus Jones etc

Actually, Ned's Atomic Dustbin was also famous for selling more t-shirts than records. Or, if not more, at least a comparable amount. They have something like 85 t-shirt designs, I think.

That many for such a fly by night band? I don't know of anyone who still really talks about them but I know that PWEI T shirts are almost collector items now along with hoodies and mugs.

I still have God Fodder on my HD but I haven't listened to it in years. Almost scared too lol

Well, to make sure I knew what I was talking about, I looked it up on wikipedia.

"The Neds" (as their fans referred to them) were well known for their own distinctive T-shirt designs, reportedly producing over 86 different designs within three years (1987-1990). (In 2009, Jonn Penney stated, "We're still adding designs - old habits die hard").

So, yeah. Not much to add to that :laughing:

Apart from that I wouldn't wear one ;)

I remember hating them back when those bands were popular. And although I can't see why now, I even kind of liked EMF and Jesus Jones back then
