^ Really? Let England Shake, though different from her prior work, is the last brilliant thing she's done imo.

I'm sure it has its merits, just not ones I'm sensible to... not an album I enjoy, that pulls me in... I remember an overall impression of acoustic earnestness, which is not my thing.

Whereas Uh Huh Her had Eff You and a couple of other snippets I really enjoyed even though it's not a great album.

Rid Of Me is brilliant but for some reason I never listened to her other albums. I'm gonna set that right by making this a PJ Harvey day

Yeah it's surprising, considering she fits well into the kind of music I'm into. I'm starting out by revisiting Rid Of Me after quite a long time, and I suddenly recognised what kept me back: it's produced by Steve Albini. This may fit into the unpopular music opinion thread, but I'm not a fan. His production always sounds the same (how easily I recognised it says enough) in a metallic way which is crisp at best and tin can-like at worst and in itself that's not a bad thing I guess, it's just not for me. The music itself is still brilliant in spite of that, but I don't think there's any Albini album I don't at least have slightly mixed feeling about

I listened to both Stories From the City, Stories From The Sea and To Bring You My Love: I kind of like both and I love some songs, but I miss the punkishness of Rid Of Me. I feel like these are albums that I have to get used to in order to appreciate them fully

Yes, that the one for me as well - though the others have lots of great music, so I don't want to say that it's all weak tea by comparison, even if it sometimes feels like it.

Love the Albini production more than I could possible say. Abrasive!
