it all depends on who you talk to and whether or not you're still looking at the X-locals sites as being reflective of the actual ability and knowledge around the area (they're not - they're the high school cliques that never ended).

let's put it this way, i moved into rural NB a few years ago and had people introducing me to stuff like Boards of Canada, Mogwai, God Speed you Black Emperor, Squarepusher and Aphex Twin - in the late 90s.

lame is relative. stop hanging around with people who refuse to believe their home town or local area could ever be culturally diverse or anything besides a few years behind the curve, and if you're one of those born and bred locals who can't see another perspective besides that one - either find the strength of character, or move away for long enough to get over your self loathing.

Well just because you had such great luck doesn't mean he did.

i'm a she.

just sayin'.
and plus i live in the worst town in the world, we're one of the most unhealthy towns in canada, we have the highest teen pregnancy rate in canada and our crime rate is ridiculously high, and all of the 20-25 year olds are just plain annoying people who walk around like they own the place.

Sounds like a hell of time to be honest.

Why don't you move if you don't like it.

To be fair, the New Jersey one is definitely the lamer of the two.

Sounds fairly like where I grew up, except you can extend that age thing to 10-25 really.

The thought of "indie trends" where I lived till I was 18 is pretty laughable really. The only discernible trend was in the form of the so-called "goths" or "moshers" - who were all into Slipknot, Korn and the like. There weren't many though, probably because such people were often the targets of violence from others, and were always ridiculed.

I hate when hipsters make jean shorts out of skinny jeans, it just makes you look like a tool.

This. I saw a guy wearing those at the grocery store and I couldn't stop laughing. He looked a little offended...
A lot of indie-music listening college kids in Austin go to Urban Outfitters far too much. That's...alright, but those bowler shoes with dresses or skirts really grind my gears.

Cut-offs ****ing rock! You're living in the wrong city if you hate cut-offs, OneThirdPassion. Absolutely everyone from downtown to Cedar Park is wearing cut-offs.

Hating on hipsters is just getting plain old, also. I mean seriously, some people need to come up with a new line.
