Are they still considered to be 'together' as a band, and does anyone know if they're supposed to be putting out new stuff anytime soon?
You should check out Gun Club, The Oblivians and The Gories - especially if you like the Stripes early albums. They may placate the wait for a new Stripes album - which will probably be disappointing when it finally comes out.

Cool Something new

Hey guys, I'm just looking for something new.
I like music that has many layers, like symphony music.
Florence and the machine i think would be a good example.
Most things with violins, tiny bells, and/or Big drums id like as long as the singing isn't too bad. I like voices to harmonize if there is more than one singer.
If anyone has any recommendations they would be much appreciated.
If you also want to look at other music i like here is my LastFM username

You could check out Broken Social Scene, they sound like what you're describing (at least I think they do)

A Whisper in the Noise would be a GREAT band for you to try.

Alright, this request might be vague, but... maybe you guys can help me. I've been neglecting indie a while and I really need to start listening to it more. If you guys have a suggestion for a REALLY great album, then that would be great. I prefer something with meaning and a bit of experimental sound isn't a bad thing either. - Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion, but I don't see what's so great about it. I can see where why Dotoar believes indie is a real genre and has an "indie sound" because this definitely sounds like a typical indie band. Sorry if this sounds a bit mean because it's not my intention. I really do appreciate the suggestion though (considering you're the only one who responded to my post).
