Well unfortunately for you that is a tall order.... The list is vast. I recommend pitchfork.org and last fm. Both will give you what you seek, but you need to do the leg work yourself.Buy some pot, and break out your headphones.

Abbatoir blues/Lyre of Orpheus is sooooo good.

I like vampire weekend and modest mouse...they are two bands that most alt-rock guys know even though they arent mega popular like U2 or Nirvana or REM or Radiohead and such.

Actually a good band thats not super popular is silversun pickups. They sound like Smashing Pumpkins but with no billie corgan. That can be a good thing for some and bad for others.

You just recommended some of the most run of the mill, generic stuff. SSP are super popular btw..... In the indie community as well as the non indie community.
