I find that some of their songs can be a bit samey, but the guitar sounds they got were amazing. Good band though.

I love these debates! It's interesting to me how passionate people are about favorite (and not so favorite) albums! I'm enjoying the recommendations and debates about various groups - and The National seems to inspire a lot of them!

I like The xx and find Bon Iver...interesting, but I find myself more drawn to artists like Kan Waker and Sharon Van Etten and I'm not entirely sure they fit the category.

Anyway, keep the recommendations coming! I'm a new convert to ambient/dream pop, and always love recommendations!

Hey man, I'm new to this site too. I've been listening to a lot of stuff from the Pixies, Barrett-era Floyd, Neutral Milk Hotel, Genesis (Gabriel era), and the Stooges. I'm into a lot of Alternative and Psychedelic-leaning music, anything tuneful and melodic yet a little rough and abrasive-sounding, also slightly off.

I recommend: Cosmicdust, Highlands, Power Pyramid, The Horrors (Avoid the first album as it's not shoegaze at all), The Bilinda Butchers and A Place to Bury Strangers.

I think you would enjoy Wilco. They have a nice sound that NMH fans would love. I recommend listening to their album Yankee Foxtrot Hotel
