Which albums from of Montreal, sigur rós and The National would you recommend? I've heard many people commend them.

Sigur Ros has many albums, but the one I've listened to is from 2005 Takk
.

As far as 'of Montreal' goes, they have gone through several completely different phases...

Acousic Indie: "Cherry Peel"
Elephant 6 Psychadelic ****ery: "The Gay Parade"
Electro-Pop: "Sunlandic Twins"
Halfway Between two Genres- "Hissing Fuana, Are You the Destroyer?"
Scum-Funk: "Skeletal Lamping"

Honestly, the great thing about the band is that Kevin Barnes never does the same thing twice. All of them are great, but if you want a starting point get either "Hissing Fuana, Are You the Destroyer?" or "The Gay Parade".

As for Sigur Ros, Takk is their best, in my opinion, and is one of the more varied in terms of musical themes.
-Go for () if you like the slower builds and the enormous finales
-the first half of Meth suth i eyrum etc if you like the happier festive tracks with heavy percussion
-Valtari if you like the ambient-influenced, mellower stuff.
-Brennistein is their new EP, and it's darker and industrial.

Here's an across-the-board sampler of their tracks:
Glosoli (Takk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz8iEJeh26E
Saeglopur (Takk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOuKdeZ2x-M
Inní mér syngur vitleysyngur (Meth suth i eyrum...):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnHqGd-z7RU
Ekki Mukk (Valtari): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INWZy3-Vw80
Brennistein (Brennistein):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc6zXSdYXm8

And my favorite sigur ros related video - Hoppipola, from their DVD Heima.

Want some new albums.

stuff i like:
Arcade Fire
Spoon
Manchester Orchestra (think their alternative)
Brand New
Iron and Wine
Neutral Milk Hotel
2 Door Cinema Club

I tend to prefer more alternative rock but I'm open to anything that sounds good.
Also I'm new, hi :)
