Okay, suppose you wanted to make a mix tape for a road trip down the California Coast.

Consider the following song as your model: Yo La Tengo - Today is the Day.

Acoustic, slow, downbeat, very very very calm. As calm as possible. Sentimental. Lyrics-oriented. Guitars. Quiet. Indie is good.

Can you recommend a few songs like this? I need to make a 12-15 song mix CD. I want her to love it.

Definitely, DEFINITELY something by Dan Mangan. I am thinking Postcards & Daydreaming. Please look it up.

I'm looking for something that doesn't sound like The National, but would appeal to someone in that frame of mind. Just a band that would sit well with The National which means it could compliment them I suppose. Doth anyone know what I'm talking about?

I wish there was an Indie and Alternative album club.

Bon Iver (!), The Antlers (A bit slower, but they have an amazing low-key somewhat electric sound), Arcade Fire, Interpol, Band of Horses, Tallest man on Earth and Yeasayer.

It was a bit hard to understand exactly what you wanted and you've probably heard all or some of the ones I've mentioned. These are just some off the top of my head.

I suspected you would say Bon Iver on account of your user name.

I like St Vincent, and well I don't know if they're considered Indy but City and Color?

The National kind of remind me of a really calm version of an Aussie band called Eskimo Joe. Er, you could also try The Smiths.. though upon reflection that's probably pretty far fetched but oh well it's worth a shot. Or even The Editors?

Why not start one? There's a few album clubs, a movie club, and a book club going at the moment but it shouldn't be a problem :)

Well, I don't really know how. I always thought that album clubs were started and managed by moderators.

Only two are managed by moderators. All the others are not. Anyone can start one. You would only need help with poll editing, if you choose to have it or to edit it.

Eh, wouldn't you know that the only two I am in are those. Alright, then. I'll start one up.

Hey guys.

I need some suggestions for some alternative/indie bands that are loud, noisy, spastic, or crazy. Some groups that make you want to physically start freaking out, or at least have some songs that do.

I'm really not into a lot of alternative, but I'm trying to get into it. I really, REALLY like The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant. Aside from that, I listen to a ton of different genres, so bands that mix genres are awesome. Thanks for the help. :)
