I would say that you should look into Phish. They are a jam band so there is a lot of improvisation in their live material (which is their only good material). I'd say a good amount of their music is jazz influenced and their is funk bass in certain songs.

Just discovered Nico Stai. Dunno if anyone has mentioned him here earlier, but his song "One October song" really got to me. His voice is awesome!
