Gescom is related to Autechre but a little more dance-y if that makes sense

I recommend that any and everyone take a listen to "Dressed Sharply" by An Horse. This song has been stuck in my head for a week.

The Growlers

I have been unable to find any results when I searched for the band The Growlers

And they are my top favorite. Along with Man Man, and Dr. Dog

These are fairly simple words to search but I was unable to find results. Maybe people can give me suggestions on more bands that are like this? I'm at a loss, it's far too hard to sift thru the bull**** music out there and find something that's actually good and gets me going.

Some music between The Distance and There's Nothing to Admit

I want to listen to music that's somewhere between the songs, There's Nothing To Admit by The Mark Within and The Distance by Cake.
So what are the qualities that these songs share and where else can I find them?

This isn't a recommendation! And I'm not going to get answers to my questions here. So thanks a lot.

Rewind 09-21-2012 09:57 PM

This isn't a recommendation! I'm looking for some feedback here, not to be shuffled somewhere where I'm not going to learn anything about what I'm specifically looking for. I don't want just any indie music, I'm trying to find something more specific then that.

Hello there.:)
Would anybody suggest me some good albums with female vocalists?
I recently discover Florence and the Machine and Lana del rey (I know I am late, but better late than never) and liked them very much.
I am not even sure that these ladies are indie or alternative because they record on major labels and their music is very enjoable and mellow, but I hope you understand the kind of songwriting and voices I like
Thanks in advance

Not sure this if you would like this or not but Feist has got some pretty solid tunes. A lot of people have heard of her more popular music but dont realize that she has got some really good songs slipping by behind the scenes.

Fabio 10-16-2012 07:40 AM

Thank you !

Excellent suggestion, man.
I have just listened to an entire album called METALS and I find that is really good: great voice, great songwriting.
I appreciate it :yeah:
Now I will try with Yeah Yeah Yeah ....

katsy 10-16-2012 02:58 PM

Lykke Li is a favorite of mine. Not quite the same as the above mentioned, but i really enjoy her stuff. I recently saw her on ACL with Florence and the Machine.

Regina Spektor maybe. Ellie Goulding seems to be making a big splash but I haven't really listened to her.

Phantogram, I know not on the same page as the above at all, but if you haven't checked them out they are worth a listen. two of my fav's: "Mouthful of Diamonds" and "When I'm small."

Zer0 10-16-2012 03:07 PM

For good female singer/songwriters you can't go wrong with Sharon Van Etten. Her last two albums Epic and Tramp are well worth a listen.

Fabio 10-17-2012 07:44 AM

Thanks a lot

to all of you that are givin me precious suggestions for female musicians/singers.
I am savin on a list all the names and I really wanna listen carefully to all of them little by little.
Please keep on suggest, I have time and passion :)

I like Lana Del Rey, too. Saw her adverts on music mags and listened to Born to Die and like it.
Do you think she's authentic, sincere or just a market artificial creation?

katsy 10-18-2012 09:48 AM

I don't know much about Lana Del ray, but from what I have heard I like.

As for her being authentic, it looks like she has paid her dues, so to speak, in the club scene. So that's something, for me. other than that I couldn't say.

Another band you should check out, Best Coast. To me they are what California sounds like. The lyrics and music are well, sloppy, but it works.

The album Crazy for You is the best. I haven't really listened to much off the new one, The Only Place. Frankly, I just can't get into it. But add them to the list;)

Best Coast are definitely worth checking out to the poster above. I've seen them live before too and I was impressed.

With this being a predominantly US-based forum, do people know much about The Head & The Heart? Stumbled across them a couple of weeks back but based on their Youtube videos, they're relatively well known already. Thoughts?

I really like -
The Head and the Heart "Down In The Valley" - AllSaints Basement Sessions - YouTube and also found another video on the same session below

The Head and the Heart "Ghosts" - AllSaints Basement Sessions - YouTube

Are they popular/getting recognition?

I saw Best Coast this past summer, they were pretty awesome.

The Head and the Heart are from the pacific northwest and have the folk thing going on. "Ghosts" is the only song I really like, and that's due to the piano. Other than that, my knowledge of them is nil. But I have heard of them, so that's something.

I love pretty much every indie/pop band that comes out of the UK:)

Check out these guys, they are from the same area as The Head and The Heart, and I am really into them. I've seen them live twice; if you ever have the chance, go see them.

This is off Blind Pilot's new album:

Newkie 10-31-2012 01:11 PM

Does anyone have any suggestions for bands similar to what The Shins were from about 2000-2007 and particularly their very early stuff, only just got round to listening to Port of Morrow and I have to say, I'm really disappointed with it. Also anything similar to Mercury Rev would be appreciated :thumb:

Lgtbmusic 10-31-2012 01:29 PM

Fleet foxes self entitled album is a great album if you like folk indie. And for upbeat indie there is this new band ultraista who uses radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich.

Have you listened to Broken Bells? Mercers side project with Danger Mouse? Very shinsish.

Early Mercury Rev with David Baker (yerself is steam, boces)? Or afterwards because to me they sound very different after he left.

katsy 11-05-2012 08:14 AM

^^ Broken Bells is good.

Arcade Fire
love this one

Spotify recommends several for The Shins
